    Two words: Molly Ivins.

There are plenty of southerners that are a hell of a lot smarter than your average northerner and you won't find any more racist whites than in the north, like parts of Detroit and Michigan.

    Hey, L.W.M.

Are you a "moronic brown-shirted freak"?

I could be... but I look like hell in brown.

It would have to be black. It's more slimming.

  • Except that Thomas Jefferson

    was from the south...

The southern strategy has worked rather well for conservatives. It's not going to work forever. If for no other reason than changes in demographics and why do you think conservatives are concerned with immigration? If they were all going to be Republican voters it wouldn't be an issue.

I'm a Democrat since probably before you smashed your first Starbucks window. I'm not sure I've ever watched more than 15 secs of FoxNews.

"I'm a Strom Thurmond Democrat and the rest of you are all anti-corporatist anarchists into grunge music and lattes from Seattle."

Compared to D.C. and the Bush maladministration it's a sandbox in a nice upscale playground. Shooter, you need to update your material. That stuff isn't dated, it's starting to smell worse than your breath.

  • Not ignorance, Paul...

    One wonders

Whether the troll has ever set foot in New Orleans.

He knows there are "negroes" in NOLA.

  • Lee Atwater off the record on the Southern Strategy...

Or the small road map to Shooter's tiny mind...

As a member of the Reagan administration in 1981, Atwater gave an anonymous interview to historian Alexander P. Lamis. Part of this interview was printed in Lamis' book The Two-Party South, then reprinted in Southern Politics in the 1990s with Atwater's name revealed. Bob Herbert reported on the interview in the October 6, 2005 edition of the New York Times. Atwater talked about the GOP's Southern Strategy and Ronald Reagan's version of it:

Atwater: As to the whole Southern strategy that Harry Dent and others put together in 1968, opposition to the Voting Rights Act would have been a central part of keeping the South. Now [the new Southern Strategy of Ronald Reagan] doesn’t have to do that. All you have to do to keep the South is for Reagan to run in place on the issues he’s campaigned on since 1964… and that’s fiscal conservatism, balancing the budget, cut taxes, you know, the whole cluster…

Questioner: But the fact is, isn’t it, that Reagan does get to the Wallace voter and to the racist side of the Wallace voter by doing away with legal services, by cutting down on food stamps…?

Atwater: You start out in 1954 by saying, 'Nigger, nigger, nigger.' By 1968 you can't say 'nigger' - that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites.

And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me - because obviously sitting around saying, 'We want to cut this,' is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than 'Nigger, nigger.'

  • Holly,

Unfortunately government and corruption go together like love and marriage (the heterosexual kind). As long as Democrats stayed in power it was an easy trick for the GOP to convince the electorate that corruption equated to Democratic politics and political dominance. That ridiculous myth has been dispelled once and for all. When was the last time some troll brought up the phony list of Clinton administration indictments? By and large, no one can compare to the GOP cons when it comes to corruption in government but it would seem that they just wanted to get in and steal as much as they could before they got tossed out on their asses for another 60 years. That's probably their racket now, and seeding the court with ideologues and hacks. They obviously can't actually govern. At least Democrats take that part of the job seriously.

I have always used (LWM) here, except for the addition of the (.)s after we had to register. It stands for Left Wing Militant. That's not the same as a left wing authoritarian, they are as rare as "hen's teeth" I'm told. I am very aggressively opposed to the right wing authoritarians.

  • Don't chicken out now.

Shooter... It stands for Left Wing Militant.

Oh. I thought it stood for.....

Where's the old Shooter we've come to know who had the courage to call Max Cleland an alcoholic coward who got his limbs blown off reaching for a beer and then had the nerve to lie about losing those limbs in combat for medals like John Kerry?

Now we know. Those reports were just contractors from Blackwater doing their jobs (ethnic cleansing).
