  • Good for you, Glenn

Some people just don't seem to get it. In the last thread, several comments have suggested you let it go and move on. I certainly can't explain it as well as I might like, but I do think I have a handle on the concept. Even you acknowledged in your response to Justin Orlando that space constraints in the comments don't allow for it to be properly addressed.

For the inevitable gripes and eye rolls that this latest post may evoke, I suggest that before anyone voices them, they read Justin Orlando's comments from the previous thread, Glenn's response to Justin, and Rollotomasi's comment towards the end referencing Jay Rosen's piece. Justin is quite astute, and your response was illuminating. I look forward to the video with the fellow from The Politico, and I'd like to thank you for this, (as soon as I stop laughing at the image it conjures up):

[W]ill the High School Clique known as the Beltway media start towel-snapping Republicans?

It's reminiscent of the old Saturday Serial cliffhangers and wouldn't we love to see that in next week's episode. Bullies hate to have the towel snapped back at them, and quite frankly, it's their asses hanging out in the breeze, not ours.

On the basis of that alone, Jonathan Alter should be ashamed to open his mouth or put what he writes in print. It may be said that after the first shot is fired, all the planning and preparation goes out the window,(in any major operation or invasion things are just to fluid), but only a fool embarks on the enterprise of war "in the dark".

  • My apologies to Jordan Orlando

My thanks to Willian Timberman. You are correct, WT.

That's the amazing thing about it, really. Alter is one of the less offensive ones. He is a frequent guest on Olbermann's show, but that's not so surprising if you assume that Olbermann is probably still fairly conservative and was likely a Republican up until recently. That is a safer assumption to make than the one that paints him as a partisan ideologue of the left.

Tiberius... I only read Glenn and Salon so I have an insight into the workings of the "progressives".

But if that's the case, I fail to see the point of your commenting here. Please do not feel compelled to do so on our account. by the same to token, don't take it personally if I refrain from responding to you in the future, a practice I hope the more appreciative readers of Glenn's blog will adhere to in the future.

  • "They are correct in that most blogging is drivel"

There are so many more blogs out there than there are media outlets, not even you can make that claim because no one has read "most blogs". If you've just read Billmon, Digby, Glenn, and a few others, you know that most newspapers or magazines don't even compare in terms of consistency and quality. Period. And those are only three. Throw in FDL for doing the Libby trial better than anyone, TPM for the current scandal, Murray Waas... They see the writing on the wall. Old media is threatened. They should be. They should wake up and die right because they died some time ago.

  • The "Grizzled Reporter" image

I know who the last "grizzled reporter" is. It's Warren Hinckle. He's the last of them.

I'd bet Paul R and Arne are familiar with Warren Hinckle.

    J.M. Greysky,

I don't think you are a troll. I just don't agree with you and lack the ability to explain and illustrate it sufficiently, and even if I could, the space restrictions here would prevent me from doing so. And W.T. isn't the "thuggish enforcer" here, God bless him. He is far too cultured and refined for that sort of thing. Right, William? ;-)

That's more my milieu, and I didn't go after you.

Glenn is "afflicting the comfortable" which is one half of Finley Peter Dunne's proscription for a muckraker (or journalist). It's obviously having an effect. You can hear the howls of discomfort all over the palace.

  • Poco... "Blogging is informational anarchy"

Blogging is more like samizdat (look it up) or Tom Paine's pamphleteering. And what is wrong with informational anarchy?

I checked. 270 letters. I don't think you are a troll. Let me give you an illustrative example because all reporting is a form of hearsay

The Tenet "slam dunk" comment. both the MalAdmin (Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al) and Tenet were in the room. We get a different impression from their version than from his in his telling in the new book. We may never know and they may both be less than honest. Bloggers didn't report it. The media did. We still don't know.

Some people analyze and diagnose. Others treat and prescribe.

Sometimes, recognizing the problem is the first step in the solution.
