Absolutely! And congratulations, Jake

[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's no easy trick to make Shooter look smart.
Very good points. Did you see my post above re: David Gregory and the White House press corp? Hardhitting investigative reporting is not their job. I think bloggers, however, can become the new Woodwoods and Bernsteins.

Yeah! Just like Confederate Yankee!
Losing Sight of the Clues
Of all the manias prevalent in Greater Wingnuttia, perhaps the most astounding is their belief that they are all Ace Reporters because they know how to use Google News. Observe for instance this goobery effusion dribbling forth from the Confederate Yankee:
I'm admittedly late to this story, and rather thankful I am, otherwise, I might have erroneously reported with other media and bloggers the apparent pre-mature detonation of a backpack bomber. I don't hold any of the bloggers commenting on this case responsible for the erroneous reporting, which seems to be a case of the professional media once again trying to rush out a story before actually having the facts of the incident verified.
Dumbass. No, bloggers did not "report" this story. A reporter reported on it, and then bloggers linked to it and perhaps added snide commentary on the MSM's failings. Likewise, CY is not "covering" this story, and neither are any of the other wingnut twits wetting their pants in glee because something went boom-boom. They are chattering about this story in a pompous fashion, and then perhaps dressing up like Nancy Drew and pestering people who one should hope have better things to do:
I've sent in an info request to the ATF Arson and Explosives Division seeking clarification of what kind of trigger they have recovered, but considering that the answer would reveal part of an on-going investigation, I don't anticipate any sort of a response.
Then what did you go bugging them for, you lunatic? And speaking of lunatics, there's this bit from the ever-reliably demented Sister Toldjah...

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm just picking the ones worthy of complete and total ridicule. I'm really ignoring him most of the time from now on in hopes he'll just go away. Come back, Shooter. We all miss having you to kick around.

LTNS...
I wish I had a better handle on Glenn's "ideological slant". I don't have it dialed in. Maybe you can pin him down. Perhaps he hasn't decided on one, other than to resist a current administration with an equally undefined ideology.
[H]e tends to skew away from this part and talk only about the power dynamics, not the ideological slant.
It's a shrewd choice, I think, strategically, but I wonder if it's a good idea in the long term.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm mostly a lurker, and it's not usually my style to try to direct the behavior of others. But, this comment section has become invaluable to me as a source of information and excellent debate. I'd hate to have someone who sources movies as evidence to affect that.
Shooter's rhetoric is laborious but somewhat creative.
We managed to live through one president (Reagan) who conducted foreign policy from a B movie script. Maybe the fact that he actually had some acting experience got us through that. It fooled a lot of people. It's bad enough we have another bad B-movie script in the WH, but we don't need that here.

Glad you decided to rejoin us. I hope you stick around.

At this point it might be interesting to note...
[Read the article: Answers for Joe Klein]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That Shooter is now defending members of a class of journalists he and Bart and their ilk typically and derisively referred to as the "Donkey Media" when they were not calling them traitors and suggesting that they should be arrested or even hanged. Odd, isn't it?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I take your point, but I consider it a self-fulfilling prophecy. If journalists practice journalism -- which means covering things that happen, not covering how things are written about -- you might see a change in that dynamic.
What Glenn is doing, quite well, and as Justin pointed out, pretty much like no one else has yet done it, is a form of feedback. And a most necessary and crucial one, at that.

From Wiki
[Read the article: Answers for Joe Klein]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Feedback is the signal that is looped back to control a system within itself. This loop is called the feedback loop. A control system usually has input and output to the system; when the output of the system is fed back into the system as part of its input, it is called the "feedback."
In cybernetics and control theory, feedback is a process whereby some proportion of the output signal of a system is passed (fed back) to the input. This is often used to control the dynamic behavior of the system. Examples of feedback can be found in most complex systems, such as engineering, architecture, economics, and biology.
And any feedback about my overuse of commas will not be necessary.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I hope you see how both you and Glenn are engaging in feedback. When Joe Klein takes the time to respond to Glenn on Time.com's dime, Glenn's obviously become part of the feedback loop, or control system, of that dynamical system we call the media, or journalism. He's doing exactly what he wants to do and many of us want him to continue doing it. I'll let Sysprog, Arne, Paul R, or Paul D or the rest of the smart people here figure out if this is a case of open loop or closed loop feedback. I don't really knoow, but we do knoow it's working because we are getting feedback from Joe Klein and others.
