Military level force? Is that some new metric? 5GW?

I believe I stated that the situation that we have now is "grey" because we have a non-governmental entity (Al-Qaida, Salafism, Jihadism or whatever you want to call it) that effectively has developed the ability to wage war on selected targets with military level force.

Just like Timothy McVeigh or the first WTC bombing attempt? But you didn't wet your pants then, did you?

The main difference is that on 9/11 they didn't bother to rent the delivery vehicles, they had the nerve to steal them. Military level force? You are hysterical. Consult a physician. Get an hysterectomy.

Ché Pasa... "It's just a piece of paper."

But it's special paper. Made from hemp, which is now illegal in some forms. How quaint!

I'm sympathetic to your view. We've a long way to go and the minute you stop pushing, the other side pushes back. One step up, two steps back.

Heh.

I honestly can't imagine that you do think.

Quill pens and inkwells?

Glenn... OK. So words are insufficient. The crisis is too grave for mere words to suffice. You said that three times (at least).

More is required. What beyond "words" needs to be done? Be specific.

Many people get frustrated with the slow pace. They think action of some sort will quicken the pace. There are many things a person can do that don't require unified public participation in demonstrations or marches. I stopped subscribing to newspapers and most magazines. If the cable companies would give us ala carte I wouldn't have Fox. I doubt that James is suggesting we all buy a rifle and join the left wing militia. Most of the framers of the Constitution effected a successful revolution without ever picking up a weapon and died peacefully in their beds of old age. Maybe we should all chip in and get Glenn a flintlock musket.

I wonder if Pat Tillman ever read any of Edsall's books..

Broder and Edsall and the rest are just pissed off that Pat Tillman arranged to meet Noam Chomsky instead of hacks like them when he returned, but he didn't make that meeting, mostly due to the failure of the likes of hacks like Broder and Edsall who think they speak for anyone they don't know personally.

Jake007

I'm a Korean War vet, and I know that Mr. Broader speaks for plenty in my generation.

If you are not in the 25-54 year old demographic, nobody gives a crap about you except for Fox news, Viagara and Laxative manufacturers.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 03:52 PM

Hey, Jake

Nobody gives a crap about me either, but it was always mutual.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 03:57 PM

Boom

Jake,

If you were 18 in '53, that makes at least 72 years of age. Not everyone that age shares your views, but your views are not like those of us a generation after you, and we outnumber you. We are the baby boomers.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 04:01 PM

Jake,

Glenn asked you nicely not to be disruptive. Glenn has one of the most permissive comment moderation policies of any blog you will find. Cut him some slack, he'll be more than fair with you.

Jake..."Were you also old enough to watch Walter Cronkite?"

Many of us here are old enough, and a few of us remember Edward R. Murrow.

They also have this thing called a video archive. In spite of what most people think, Ampex corporation in Menlo Park invented magnetic tape technology in the 1940s. It was used to record video in the late 50s. It wasn't the Japanese in the 70s.

Jake

I will take a look at the Hewitt thread and comment there if necessary. As for what I agree with Broder on, his centrist line mostly mirrors mine -- I'm a registered Independent -- although I'm sure there are some specific issues we disagree on, but I haven't read any lately. I certainly don't enjoy the "vituperative, foul-mouthed bloggers on the left" that's for sure. And, I sure agree with him about anybody who wants the presidency so much that he'll spend all that time and money for it is not to be trusted with the office.

Don't comment over there. That's Glenn's old blog.

The center is pretty much gone. Vanished.

Are you old enough to remember Will Roger's response to that question? "I belong to no organized [political] party. I'm a Democrat."

Have you been to LGF or Misha's Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler, lately? Try Misha's...

http://www.nicedoggie.net/2007/

Nobody on the left is that "vituperative and foul-mouthed" except maybe the RudePundit.

I was saying that before Broder. He's so far behind the curve he's in fron of the last wave.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 04:36 PM

Jake to Glenn... "Were you also old enough to watch Walter Cronkite?"

Glenn... No.

Surely you have seen that famous clip when Walter said that the war was lost...

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/database/cronkite_w.html

I've seen them both and Broder is no Cronkite.

Yes...

Jake007 is a Think Progress troll. I knew I'd seen that nick before. Can I play with him a bit before I chew him up? Please?

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 06:57 PM

Neither is Jake007 ;-)

Glenn... Of course. I've read a lot about journalism and the Vietnam War, journalism and the Nixon administration and the abuses that came out of that, etc. I just am not old enough to have formed a contemporaneous opinion of Walter Cronkite's journalism.

My take on Cronkite, or most of them from that era, is the same as Colbert's. They had a "liberal bias" because they reported the unvarnished news. Spin hadn't really been perfected yet.
