To be fair to John A.

Leave aside Aravosis' praise of the Malkin-loving Kurtz as being so "fair."

He was a rabid Republican at one time so he's still in recovery.

"Aravosis is a lawyer and worked on Capitol Hill as a foreign policy advisor for Ted Stevens, a right-wing Republican senator in the late 1980s and early 1990s before becoming a Democratic activist."

It does make you wonder, about the point in continuing to use the of the left/right designation as anything more than a gauge on economic or cultural differences. I get the sense that Olbermann's transformation from essentially apolitical to his outspoken interest in politics is similar to that of many people who read this blog, and perhaps the person who writes it.

"Keith Olbermann has responded to accusations of bias by saying, "I'm not a liberal, I'm an American."

Bottom Line, Mona

It ruined healthcare. It's ruining journalism. Some things are too important and necessary to be left to the vagaries of the market.

You must be lost.

Here are directions back to your village. It's missing another one of it's idiots.

Karen,

For now, I'd let the market work for Olbermann...

CNN and MSNBC's feud with Fox did not begin with Olbermann

"I just think Olbermann allows himself to be labeled "partisan" at least in part because of his "feud" with O'Reilly."

And wouldn't you rather that both networks set themselves apart from Fox, rather than adopt that model?

Rather Biased

That is the consensus view of Beltway journalists. No matter how many nakedly partisan attacks Brit Hume launches -- and he's been doing that for years -- he is still to be considered a perfectly objective and respective journalist, a "news anchor."

This is what set them after Dan Rather. He was doing his job as a journalist. Hume's job is as an attack dog.

But...

Clearly, any network programming whiz that can't read the trends, and persists in trying to make MSGOP or CNN Fox News Lite, doesn't understand the market. Olbermann beats every show on MSNBC and most of them on other networks.

Hopefully Paul R will explain and expound on this...

"Of course I would, but I suspect that they (the BigMediaGuys) look only at the bottom line when they are considering market factors."

Cable News depts. are actually big money makers now, but precisely because the news depts. do real news anymore.

Howie's gushing about Brit Hume...

...in that article from The WaPo reminds me of Matthews gushing about Bush. Howie is a jerk. Glenn isn't the first who has had valid criticisms of Kurtz. Sommersby has been doing this for years.

Howie is one of Atrios' favorite wankers.

Charles, How nice of you to join us.

I'd love to see them...

But it sounds like the typical crap we've all seen from the Free Enterprise Institute or whatever euphemism Big Pharma is using.

And btw, it is not at all obvious that the FDA saves more lives than it takes, as has been written about extensively. (I'm too lazy to go gather links right now, but that is true.)

Perhaps you know we can easily debunk them. Protecting people from qauckery is more likely to save them than kill them. Tell us, Mona. How many people died because they thought Laetrile would cure cancer.

Ignore Charles...

He's as intelectually dishonest as they come. An idiot. They finally showed him the door at ObWi because he was such a loon. He scared too many people and he's obsessed with Glenn.

The New Hating on Charles Bird:

http://hocb.net/

So let me see if I'm keeping up adequately. Yesterday, Mr. Charles Bird called for the summary execution of Jane Fonda and Noam Chomsky.

Today, Mr. Bird gives vent to rather easily-debunked ravings of the rightwing Nutosphere.

And there he is, on the front page of Obsidian Wings!

I think I know all I need to know about this site. Have a nice weekend.

Don't get caught committing thoughtcrime, sedition, or treason!

True

Glenn also conveniently omits that Hume was a longtime journalist with ABC News before his stint at Fox. Olbermann's time before MSNBC was reading sport highlights.

-- Charles Bird

But Olbermann did go to Cornell, and I think he stayed in a Holiday Inn last night.

JD Hayworth was a TV sporstcaster before he went to Congress. Now he could end up in prison. That ain't no Holiday Inn, birdbrain.

heh.

"I have to wonder if it also somehow escaped Howie's notice that he's married to a longtime Republican operative."

For his part, Kurtz has declined to state his political affiliation, leaving it to others to divine what his political views are.

In 2007, Kurtz referred to critics of the Iraq War as "journalists of questionable patriotism".

I think it's fairly obvious.

Olbermann: "I'm not a liberal, I'm an American."
