Foolish Know-Nothings, All

AS A longtime reader of Pandagon, please let me inform you that, if you claim that Amanda Marcotte is 1) an untalented writer or 2) a mean spirited person, or 3) a nut job, ALL you are shouting is that you have never actually read PANDAGON.

You are giving yourself away as a Know-Nothing Ass.

Please stop embarrassing yourselves; acquaint yourself with the material under discussion. Amanda Marcotte is a humourous, humane, generous, thoughtful writer, both skilled and prolific. You may not agree with her, but characterizing her as "the Ann Coulter of the Left" is quite simply ridiculous.

To Clarify

To clear things up: I am a fan of BROADSHEET and I think SALON is a great thing and I read it all the time. I have never once threatened to cancel my subsciption because somebody who is different form me, or who disagrees with me, is published here!

I think it is odd and strangely illiberal that "women's" issues are segregated to a special "area", especially when you consider that most of the people on Earth and In America are Female.

I have registered my thoughts about this with the Editors of Salon, whom I do not hate. I think overall they do a fine job. I personally would do it differently, because I think females are fully human, and news that affects women primarily (such as the discovery of the Cervical cancer vaccine) affects us all, and is legitimately news. However, I kind of understand why they opted to do it this way, which is because:

A lot of the men who read Salon are not equality-minded guys, but are rather members of the Crybaby He-Man Woman-Hater's Club. Read the comments after any story written by a female and you will see what I mean. There aren't a lotta gals writing hateful vitriol about how dare Salon publish a story about Sports, but when Salon carries a story about childcare....look out! The crybaby He-Men just can't stop reading and can't stop commenting about how terrible the Editors are to ALLOW such topics to be written about! And by such untalented female writers too! WAHHHH!!!!

Also, just because the editor in chief is a female, doesn't mean I automatically agree with her, and it doesn't mean my POV is incorrect. You know how not all men agree about everything? Well, not all women agree about everything either! We aren't a hive-mind, we females.

My intention earlier was to say: if you think BROADSHEET is a pot calling the kettle black, for not being enthused about a pink ghetto approach to Mom-Lit, that you should tell the Editor of Salon your opinion. Not chastise Rebecca and her cohorts.

Please Consider

A number of commenters have noted that BROADSHEET itself is relegated to "pink-Lite" news, thus marginalizing half the population.

Good for you. You noticed!

Then, they have gone on to BLAME the contributors to BROADSHEET as though they THEmSELVES are the ones behind the segregation.

Um, No.

The person you would want to Bring This Up with is the EDITOR or EDITORS in CHIEF of SALON.

Rebecca Traister et al are not the masterminds behind segregating all news pertaining to the female experience. That is SALON's idea.

It has offended me from the begining that everything pertaining to my experience as a person is shoved onto a "special interests" page.

But I am not overly SURPRISED, because a HUGE percentage of Salon readers are misogynistic, entitled males who scream bloody murder if they are forced to read anything having to do with femaleness. (read the comments after ANY story by a female writer if you don't believe me, It's WAY surprising. Most of the males who read Salon are Not Socially Liberal, and DO NOT want to hear about anything having to do with 1)children 2)food 3)vaginas 4)inequality and just HATE IT when WOMEN write ARTICLES!; AND THEY ARE CANCELLING THEIR SUBSCRIPTION TO SALON RIGHT NOW because they just can't BELIEVE how LOW the standards have gotten around here!

EggFlip

I just have to stand up for the Author here; a "flip" is a colonial-American word meaning "A Punch made with whipped cream" or sometimes just "punch".

Maybe no one is Canada calls eggnog an Eggflip, but I guarantee I have at least one cookbook arouns here (I collect old ones) that called eggnog Egg Flip.

Original article: The virtual John Kerry

Why Doesn't he understand?

Why can't John Kerry get it through his head that we will NEVER trust him again? He has no HOPE of winning the Presidency. He made a PROMISE that every vote would be counted (ie, that he wouldn't "be a gentleman" like GOre, and FOLD) and then he F3576284783478ing FOLDED in TEN SECONDS even though he PROBABLY WON the election!!!

HE BROKE HIS PROMISE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

WE HATE HIM NOW

Some thoughts

Hello.

"SORRY ENTERTAINER"

Wow, it really is something to see Daniel Johnston quoted, like his song titles are part off our national cultural experience. I wish he were sane enough to glory in it!

I think what YOU do, writing about television, is interesting and important. Just sayin'.

I think you are a REALLY good WRITER !!!

You are RIGHT ON about the "relatable" thing. You really have to BE A GENIUS (like (Albert Brooks) to get around the "I write about the world of PRIVILIGE because it is all I know" thing.

I liked that show about that asshole guy in TV (or was it Movies?) and I also liked the Larry Sanders SHow..those were comedies though.

I have a hard time swallowing DOCTORS as self-important he-ros; in the REAL hospital, you never fucking SEE the assholes, and barely get a few quality minutes with a nurse. For about 45,000.00 a visit. And if you don't have insurance, go die. Do they ever deal with the GO DIE problem on those shows? I never watch them, they are SUCH a fantasy, they piss me off but good.
