Interesting that you think I issue "milquetoast barb"s while being "vitriolic". I'm not even sure why you took offense here. I was just saying that I was hardly being vitriolic, the "sheltered life" comment suggesting that much worse is readily evident if one looks around. It wasn't actually directed at you, it was a comment that what I said was fairly tame.

since you're all about class and values

You read interesting things into my comments. I'm saying that the Pats behavior violates the norms within the society of the NFL. If that's "class and values" to you, then so be it.

200-pound men ramming into each other with the force of a car crash.

So you're saying that the very nature of the sport obviates sportsmanship? At its core, it is a game, a sport and one that prides itself on its history, tradition and sportsmanship. If all you see is the violence it is no wonder you think there's no room for "class" or "values".

Clearly, scores will be lopsided at times, but (and I don't have the time to research this) how often do those lopsided games have the starters in at the end still trying to score? And how often is it week after week? As others have pointed out here, I have no direct line to Bellecheck's psyche, but as others have also pointed out, Bellecheck seems to be trying to make a statement here. I've mentioned before that he's had an odd career where others have taken credit for his success (Parcells), where the rug has been pulled out from under him when he was on his way to a great season (Art Modell), where he seems to think he was being treated like a second prize (being made Jets head coach after Parcells left) and where he was caught cheating. People who have paid far more attention to the Pats than I have mentioned numerous other suspicious events that seem to indicate cheating, but as far as I know, no investigations are going forward.

Is his "statement" about these continued accusations? About his muddled past? Just because he's a bastard? I have no idea. But I do know he's purposely violating the sportsman's code in the NFL every chance he gets. He's shown himself to be very petty already, just last year he refused to shake the hand of the Jets head coach after losing to him. This isn't just a casse of a very talented team playing very well. There's something more to it and it eminates from the Head Coach.

Brilliant argument. Ignore all substance and call people "whiners" and "babies". And your allusion doesn't hold water. It isn't part of corporate america's culture to hold back and commerce isn't a sport. You're comparing apples and plungers.

So you have 2 or 3 others to point to in 30 years of football and their blowouts weren't by as much.

That seems to support my theory that this is an abberation in the norms of the sport.

When it comes to the cheating scandal, most people want it both ways too. First they call Bellicheck a genius and then state he wasn't cheating because they can't figure out how he was benefitting from it. Apparently he's not so much a genius that he can think of anything they can't think of.

  • Baseball and running up the score

Earlier someone asked if baseball is different when it comes to running up the score. There've also been people that mentioned the "mercy" rule in little league and in casual leagues.

The answer is yes, there is a difference and MLB already has a mercy rule. The Pats running up the score late in the 4th quarter is akin to the Red Sox or Yankees (Evil Empires North and the Original) insisting on playing out the bottom of the 9th even though they're already ahead 12-1 so they can pad their stats. In baseball if you're ahead and it is your turn to score and it is the last inning, everyone says "Nice game guys, lets go home!" Think of the records the big hitters might have set had they been able to keep batting in that last inning. Think of all the beanballs and brushback pitches that'd be thrown in that inning. Oh the chances for violence and stat-padding that have been thrown away.

If only you could find a way to make money intentionally misunderstanding what others say. You have such a talent for it. Combine that with your "poor me, I'm a persecuted man" syndrome and I'd have to say you're highly qualified to be an RNC spokesman! Maybe even a radio show host.

Perhaps whichever of these two is the writer (I'm not going to give it another page click to look it up) also writes for the AP and gave us headlines like this one:

That's right, Slain... to death! Sounds like something from a bad noir strip, no?

The Federalist society loves McCarthy, so why would they decry "McCarthyist" tactics being used against her? Oh, that's right, the motto of conservatives is "Do as I say, not as I do". How silly of me.

Of course, there is no "McCarthyist" activity, just another incompetant Republican showing how they're unfit to govern at any level, in any capacity, for any position.
