No Name
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why in the world would King write about what you're asking for when it is clear you don't read what he writes anyway? Your diatribe makes no sense whatsoever. He says Jeter isn't as good now as he was when he placed 6th in mvp voting and you take this to mean he loves him?
Here's a suggestion, first go back on your meds. Then go read through the archives and you'll discover articles discussing many different teams in many different sports.
That or continue your obvious projection of your feelings onto Mr. Kaufman.

My quibbling
[Read the article: Ring-a-ding-ding, sitar-style]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My quibbling is based on your apparent delving into as much history of the ringtone as you can and then dismissing the show as a show "that lasted less than a year before being canceled by Nickelodeon, but, like pretty much everything these days, has picked up a cult following that will keep its memory burning alive until the world is reduced to smoking post-holocaust rubble."
Way over the top dismissiveness for something you've never seen. You can bother to get the facts right on who created an annoying ringtone, but don't understand the difference between "less than a year" and nearly two years of episodes. The disparity in volume of detail and snarky description against detailed information makes it seem like you consider the ringtone and its various incarnations more culturally worthy than the tv show. Ever seen any of it?
Give me a hint, what is out there that can't be described by "has picked up a cult following that will keep its memory burning alive until the world is reduced to smoking post-holocaust rubble". I'm guessing it has to be something that was in the far more worthy period than "these days".
What culturally significant product is out there that doesn't rely on "cult following"?
Does mass popularity make something better?
Does the number of seasons a show is renewed indicate its quality? If so you must love daytime soaps.
Did your scorn for the ringtone simply drip onto everything else mentioned in the article? The sarcasm about the girl who created the latest "mashup" watching so much YouTube was quite billeous.
I usually look forward to postings in How the World Works, this was childish and bitter. You're a better writer than this. Something upset you and it is coming out here? Yankees got knocked out of the playoffs in 4 games (speaking of cult followings), that sour your milk?

Viguerie is a typical Republican
[Read the article: Scapegoating gay Republicans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]He's perfectly willing to just make things up and then spout them as the truth no matter how it flies in the face of reality.
I don't think anybody's ever accused Rick Santorum of not being supportive of any issues in the same-sex-marriage area.
How was he able to say that with a straight face? Does he know who Santorum is? It is absolutely stunning that he would make such a statement.
Bryan, I had exactly your reaction at first, "Is Viguerie insane?" and then I realized it is no different from Bush stating Iraq had weapons of mass distruction of Katherine Harris recently declaring she was ahead in the polls. How do you know when a republican is lying? Any time they've said something.
This is why they were so comfortable covering this up; lies are their currency. They "create reality" according to the philosophy they laid out for Woodward and this is just another sign that they think they really can.
I'd also like to mention that all the focus on Foley being gay is a distraction. Yes, he's gay. Yes, he's a republican. Did he lie and act in an immoral fashion? I already said he's a republican (yes, he did). The real issue and the real problem, the reason he had to resign and the reason Republican leadership should all resign, the reason voters should turf them all this fall, is that he was preying on underage staffers. Not only did he hold power over them, they were underage. The issue is pedophelia, not homosexuality.
When talking to conservatives, ask if they're voting Democrat or for pedophiles. Not all republicans are pedophiles, but they covered for one and that makes them just as bad.

Wasted effort
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You really needn't have bothered writing the rest of the article. All anyone is going to take away from this is your screed against Gilliam. If your intent was to distract from the other movies or to drive readers from your column then Bravo sir! Bravo!
BTW, how old are you Mr. O'Hehir? I certainly wouldn't want to read anything written by a person of a certain age just as you wouldn't want to watch a movie by a person of a certain age. If you're going to publicly judge people by age, certainly yours should be available to the public as well.

Oil Prices
[Read the article: Greenspan and the speculators]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure it'll go back up after the election.

Impressive
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A Little Big Man reference AND a Superfriends reference in the same sports column? I am impressed indeed.

Slutty AND Ironic?
[Read the article: Taking back "Slut-o-ween"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Simple, dress like a whore and wear a Dick Cheny mask or a George Bush mask. When people try to talk to you, tell them talking is a minimum $10,000 "donation". Let 'em know who the real whores are.
