Bread and Roses
[Read the article: Writing about feminists? Just make stuff up]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Marianna,
You're right. I didn't post there 'cause I didn't have anything I wanted to say. I know little of the situation beyond Zimbabwe's general condition. I'm heartened that they're standing up, but want to see what the government's response is before I have much to say about it.
I read your post on the subject, in the hopes that you'd start a dialog such as you suggest here, but it was just a post of support. A "bravo" for them. Not much to say about that either.
I've tried to start serious discussions in the letters column in the past, but it rarely gets taken up. I just don't know enough to offer anything substantial.
I wish I had something to offer these brave, desperate women. I wish you did too.

No evidence
[Read the article: Hume: Cheney said he had "a beer" on the day of the hunt]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of course not. That's why you wait until the next morning to talk to police. Destroy the evidence then have your pet "news" people state that there's no evidence.
-
Of course
[Read the article: McClellan: Bush is OK with Cheney explanation, and you should be, too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why in the world does anyone think an alcoholic and likely drug addict would want to investigate the alcohol abuse of his second in command?

OK Anonymous too, or Brightstar
[Read the article: "The day I don't look at pretty girls, I die"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I didn't post that Anonymous comment, I always sign. But It is indeed obvious Brightstar has no respect for women, barely any respect for men and certainly no respect for himself. I won't tell him to shut up, everyone has a right to express their opinion, but I would ask that he either enter therapy or simply stop posting just to irrritate people. It isn't productive. I'd love to see a post from him here where he addresses issues maturely or with some thought. Maybe something about why he's so angry toward women.

What Happened?
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]King,
I've been looking for some more detailed information about what happened in the snowboarding event you mentioned, but it isn't in my latest copy of "Cave and Garden". How about you let us know or at least give us a link? I have no children, much less ones allergic to vacations, so I was on vacation and wasn't watching the Olympics.

Yuda

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why do you think only the slowest skater matters? Isn't it an aggregate time?

6 years later
[Read the article: Offshoring: Not so bad after all]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and I'm still making 40% less than I did when Clinton was president. It isn't just outsourcing causing the problems, it is the business clmiate too. I predict there'll be plenty of jobs in the US in coming years at lower wages fixing the crappy jobs done "offshore". Translation, miscommunication and having to pay more every time you make a change is resulting in horrible code and design implementation.

Salon today
[Read the article: Introducing the Guilties!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Today on Salon there's one piece of news, a cartoon, a book review, an advice column and this piece of nothing. Even the letters to this article are pointless and bland. Are you just troll trolling? War Room has one new post after the weekend, Broadsheet the same. King Kaufman hasn't posted yet. Where's the content?
-
Sleepy from the weekend?
[Read the article: Holy Mary, mother of women's studies?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]2 posts today and that's it? I'm sure there's more to write about. Octavia Butler died this weekend, how about an obituary or mention of her work? Doesn't need to be here in Broadsheet, though she was an influential female author, do a story about her in the main Salon section.

Friends
[Read the article: All my lovers are from the loony bin!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree with ccrowson and would like to add one point. Can you see yourself as friends with their friends? If not, there may be a problem there. You're not just getting the one person, you're getting their social network as well. I'm not saying everyone has to get along wonderfully, just that you have to enjoy being with his friends a little and he yours. If you can't, you're in for a long competition that has no winner.
-
Thank You
[Read the article: Octavia Butler dies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]She was an excellent and important author and her passing should be noted.
-
Shame about the interviewers
[Read the article: Send in the scolds!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sure, they can get all tough and scolding when it comes to Olympic athletes. Where is this attitude when dealing with the most corrupt administration in American history? They're a bunch of cowards.

Passion and Values
[Read the article: God's demagogue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]macheath32,
Bryant was full of passion and "values" and he lost repeatedly. Being intelletual and having "passion and values" are not the mutually exclusive groups you seem to think they are. I didn't see any argument in the article that these things should be removed or that one must be trumpeted at the expense of the other.

Negro Leagues and the Hall of Fame
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is this the only time they'll be considering any of the players from the Negro League for the Hall? If not, he could get in next time. If so, maybe they should reconsider how many they are inducting in the first place and make it a bigger class, showing a little more class.

Good Example
[Read the article: Bush: Osama bin Laden helped me get reelected]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of how the enemy of my enemy isn't necessarily my friend.

Grumpy Optimist
[Read the article: God's demagogue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"muck things up for us" how? We never should have been in that war in the first place.

Lilith De' Anu
[Read the article: God's demagogue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, you've been entered into the drawing for the "least relevant comment" prize.

Of course there are some missing.
[Read the article: A true title sequence]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The beauty is that if anything is missing, it wasn't "major".
Bedazzled (the original)? Batleship Potempkin? Life of Brian? Thirteen Monkeys? Tron? Flying Down to Rio?
Of course some are on there so briefly it is hard to see. I had to do as close as I could to frame by frame to find Forbidden Planet and MAN is it blurry.
Cute, but no cigar. They missed a TON.

Marty is right
[Read the article: You've got good mail]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've seen articles here on Salon bemoaning the beginning of the end of the internet, how soon companies will be trying to charge for every bit of access to information. Now the foot is about to be planted in the door and Salon says "hooray"? What an odd blind spot. This is AOL, long one of the least open, least competitive, least liberal companies on the internet saying they're going to start charging for the oldest internet service out there. It starts here, where does it go when they see they can get away with it?
