I was amazed to see he even got a mention in this article, but was disappointed that he was referred to as "libertarian Texas Rep. Ron Paul". He's actually a Republican, though he has strong libertarian leanings (as all truly conservative Republicans should). And unlike the rest, Ron Paul never reads his speech's from Teleprompters. He always speaks honestly, directly and from the heart. He is truly one of us.
As a self-proclaimed "alternative media" source, you should be ashamed that your reporting of Ron Paul's exciting and viable campaign for President is on par with that of the mainstream media, maybe even falling under par at times.
And I quote: "Republicans will suffer no long-term political damage for having started and for continuing to support what is arguably the most disastrous war in U.S. history."
Has the author never heard of Ron Paul? The ONLY GOP candidate running for the Presidency in 2008 who voted against the Iraq invasion and is loudly stating he would do everything in his power to bring our troops home if elected? That's right, not everybody in the GOP is a warmonger. Some, like Paul, are true conservatives.
Although I applaud the decisions in these cases thus far, I still suspect that we haven't seen the worst yet. We need to roll back Big Government and take this country back! The only man honest enough, educated enough, and passionate enough about freedom to do that is Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul. Visit the campaign website at www.ronpaul2008.com to learn more about this great statesman and defender of the Constitution.
So taking a principled stand on the Constitution, seeing eye to eye with our Founding Fathers, and having the most integrity filled career on the Hill makes one a gadfly?
What is Salon so afraid of that they can't cover Ron Paul with the dignity and respect he deserves? Would your colleagues make fun of you on the playground, not let you sit at their table during lunch break, and paste you with spitballs during class?
He's the only logical choice for this group. As you can see, none of the other candidates meet their requirements like Ron Paul does. Why? Because Ron Paul:
Supports states rights on issues like abortion, which he's personally opposed to.
Supports allowing prayer in public schools.
Supports defining marriage as that between one man and one woman, and believes states retain the right to decide whether or not to make gay marriage legal or prohibited.
Is a staunch defender of the 2nd amendment.
I applaud every bit of the approach you took here. It was honest, open and served your child well. I can only hope other parents take your lead and stop all the moralizing and lying when it comes to drugs.
And for those who deride you for driving while "impaired", news flash: it was two puffs! That, for most cannabis smokers, is equivalent to having a beer or 1 cocktail and then driving. There certainly is a line one must draw when driving after having taken ANY substance (including prescription medicines), but I trust most adults to decide where that is for them.
For those who are all aghast because "but it's against the law!!!" For hell's sake! Who cares? It's perfectly okay to break laws that are immoral, unjust and absolutely un-Constitutional.
If the Founding Fathers were still alive they'd be dumping politicians in the Boston Harbor over these insane drug laws. And if they were reading these responses they'd be ASHAMED of the sheep-like, pansy ass attitude of so many Americans who say "but it's the law!" As if it's our duty to follow unjust laws. No, it's our duty to PROTEST these laws! Wake up America!
That was the highlight of this biased, boring, dog-and-pony show so typical of the mainstream media. Ron Paul is definitely the kook of the bunch! I mean seriously, read the Constitution? What does he think these guys are, Founding Father material? They'd rather wipe their collective golden asses with it.
The reviewer said about Paul's book:
"Anyone who opposes the Iraq war can find something to agree with in his generally isolationist, libertarian, anti-neocon views about the role of the United States in the world. They'll just have to ignore his views on a lof of the other topics not covered by this book, meaning the environment, civil rights, taxes, healthcare, abortion ..."
Is that a surprise to this reviewer? Did he not read the title of Paul's book? For his information, it's called "A Foreign Policy of Freedom". Now, why would the reviewer expect it to cover every other issue under the sun when right there in the title it's clearly a book about U.S foreign policy?
I'm sick and tired of a society that believes everyone is responsible for your life but YOU. They think it's their job to tell you how to live your life and how to raise your kids. Stop!
It is ENTIRELY up to parents how they treat nudity in their own home and around their own children. News flash: we are born naked and there is simply nothing wrong with nudity! There's a BIG difference between sexuality and nudity. Don't confuse the two in all of your moralizing madness.
Ron Paul is a man of sanity, intelligence and wisdom unlike I have ever seen in politics, or likely every will see. His solutions are that people should be responsible for their own actions and that nobody, not even the collective, has a right to coerce another in any way. Brilliant. It's what made this country great!
As for his environmental solutions, he has the only ones that make any sense. Remember, he's speaking about what he would and could do at a FEDERAL level. There is much that can still be done at the state and local level. The federal government needs to be weakened and hobbled just as the Founders intended.
