@Kahuuna 07

"Were this not the typical Liberal outrage drivel it would be laughable."

Were it not laughable, it would the typical Liberal outrage?

or is it typical to be outraged and laughable at the same time by the conservative/liberal political posturing and opportunism.

The list is certainly long and has plenty of Gingrich, Specter, Bush and Cheney all on it.

@Yasadon

"They have to purge themselves from their tyrant dictators."

And the US will be only too eager to come in with the CIA, US secretive funding and overthrow or bolster the preferred rulership in its destined season of corporate and military, generational destiny.

@Old Poor Richard

"I think you're right."

I think I love my dog, lover and God, but then I may be wrong.

Don't obsess over it. Just say no.

@BriGuy 301

"The question is: On what date was the Golden Rule repealed in this country?"

That conveniently ignored dictum went out with the "compassionate conservative" moniker and the Jerry Falwell, "God hates the sin and not the sinner (teh gay) paraphrase of the holy writ.

The "gold" in "golden rule" can be found hidden in the darkest regions of KBR, Blackwater and Boeing.

So, So Very Good

"Didn't they do a good job"-London Lad

The gift keeps giving us the premise that the proper reaction to being hit by planes on our pillars of wealth and military might was to take this opportunity to delude those gullible, frightened Americans into believing they were relieved of defending their very rights as citizens of a once lawful society.

"A Jury (SC Court) of their Peers" Shake-up (white shoe-ins, old boys club not welcome)

Some current society dream list demographic considerations to round out obvious deficiencies:

*Sonia Sotomayor types (edgy, Hispanic, qualified and smart)

*Asians, Arabs and all other ethnic group members

*One openly gay judge highly profiled, since their contribution to DC politics, the military and all facets of employment are widely involved, but undervalued, unrecognized and sadly, disdained, if they should be outed.

Whites on the SC have had an aristocratic, monopoly for over two hundred years.

Blacks broke the barrier with SC Justice T. Marshall and won the current prize of President (though that victory for racial achievement may not seem so significant in the Executive).

The "writers" of news (used quite loosely) still promulgate the uneasiness with which Americans view the deciders of written law--theirs, and our discomfort with ethnic influx is mirrored on the Court.

The Sum of It

"...until they start getting applied to the wrong people (which is always what happens when authoritarian government measures are instituted):"--Glenn

That perfectly sums up this discussion of--

free speech for me, but not for thee if I decree.

Much like the "politically correct" sensitivities that keep pricking our consciences within the "right" and "left" persuasions--we hear the outcry of hypocrites like Harman who play both sides of protecting corporate speech/immunity for security purposes at the expense of citizen/consumer privacy, but plead victim when those consequences of corporate unaccountability transgress against her personally.

Two recent examples within the US from some leaders who ran awry of quenching their free expression --

When the DHS Director validates a study warning of particular groups that show a history of eruptive and violent extremism, she is called out and condemned because on the list she dared implicate some who had returned scarred from the war and thus committed violent acts after recruitment by anti-government factions.

When VP Joe Biden is asked honestly, what he personally would do to stem the risk during the height of the swine flu, he says he would suggest that his family and friends avoid closed in travel compartments since the air is stale and recirculated, raising the risk of exposure. Out of the airline lobby and GOP smear campaign they cry that that Biden is wacky, mouthing hysteria without cause.

In many spheres we've seen that free speech is fine just so far, but be careful not to offend such entities like the noble military, people of faith or the hard-working rich who are tax-burdened.

More cautionary, all these honest, free speech advocates should be concerned when "free society" countries like UK and Israel begin throttling the expression of words/ideas (particularly when they do not advocate violent acts).

Where's the Consumer Outcry?

"...many of the banks created -- are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place."--Glenn

Sad that the most obvious, prominent fact of life to anyone awake since Sept. 08 (or for two decades) is that statement by Durbin.

It is treated as breaking news by most faux media of any stripe, yet most unfortunate is that it defines perfectly that our republic is indeed--

lost to the kings of corporate America.

Glenn, isn't it frightening to know we consumers (the affluent of $375k+ being the latest definition) are quite well-represented by the Capitol lobbyist? The rest of us get a say with questionable , window dressing elections and under-funded advocacy groups.

The blatant, wanton and violent theft of those who are still told by capitalist, conservatives to climb America's ladder of success for all hard-working stiffs is nearly complete.

Is it ever more apparent that getting the wealth can be hard or easy, but keeping it once obtained, the rules favor the successful to the detriment of the unenlightened, self-defeated masses.

Ask Durbin Why He Is the Only--

Senator or Rep to dare say their independence has been compromised by the banking lobby (an inescapable fact for anyone listening to repeated hearings/testimonies before finance and banking sessions on Capitol Hill).

Why no others chime in with such plain English is quite telling, but then we already knew that.
