Ya got a cut through all the "devout" appeals for respect because "I'm a believer" (in whatever I claim to be truth). The Bachmans have been here since Abraham and I don't feel any warmer or safe with them in the world calling the shots.
Give me less religious zealotry and more introspective thinkers.
We've been down the road that says, "my god has given me insights, judgement and wisdom" and therefore I know better than you what is good for you.
Do these faith moralist really think they have a foot up on better morals than the humanists?
They sure do.
"So more screening by coopted police - keep any sane thoughtful people away from Republican rallies! Let the crazy bastards loose in all their brown-shirted glory."
They might loose this battle (Presidency), but the structures have been put in place from 8 years of concerted effort to make us fear that government. That one that used to be us.
What happened during the Conventions was not only a test of police/military will on us..
...it was a metaphor for the new, stomp the status quo, peaceful America protesters.
And seeing all these:
"1. There are two weeks remaining to the election. Much can change still.
2. If Obama wins, the right is not going to fade quietly into the oblivion they so richly deserve.
3. This is a country that elected George W. Bush not once, but twice.
4. See number 3."
...Says, (as someone earlier alluded to) the disenfranchisement problem is concerning.
What a pity that the cries of RFK Jr. do not get the media attention, they should. The press (other than MSNBC) would rather present an unbalanced expose' of Acorn's voter registration and never mention the real voter fraud that is occurring even now.
"the ability to quickly assemble a nuclear weapon would effectively give Iran a nuclear deterrent" -- in other words, they'd have the ability to deter a U.S. attack on their country, and we can't have that."
We "deter" so we have a pretense to make war (profit from oil and military machinations). It's quite circular. We invent a minor threat (enlarge and propagandize it), so we have a steady supply of "enemies " that need correcting. While we "correct" all these pockets of rebellious nations we enter in as the objective party to right the wrongs and take a larger piece of the fragmented pie.
Interesting how America's interests always mesh well with an ever increasing establishment and foundation of military bases throughout the world.
I get all war-crazy when experts use tough talk like "terrorist Senator". It puts everything in perspective, how very simple it is that way to understand.
If I choose the rigt adjective and place before a senator's name, GAME OVER.
We "codepinkers" just can't win, unless we give homage to the war god. How very weak of us to dig at the root of the problem (proliferation of nuclear weapons)when cutting to the chase with OUR nuclear proliferation is much simpler.
The real "cowards", "old fart", are aggressors so scared of their little-minded lives that thinking through a problem demands they give up their tribalism and stupid-i-fact-notion of the dilemma.
As Glenn has established often, these are not career "professionals" that adhere to an ethic of "free press' as endearing as that might be to the thinking Americans.
Rather, these non-journalist prostitutes see only the advantage of access to the political elite as good career insurance to further their notoriety and bank account.
What they will never acknowledge is the vile part they play in depriving the non-thinking public of true, "unfiltered" (I use term oppositely of Palin)necessary information/coverage.
The strategy for Morris and other media whore McCain enablers-repeat misleading, inaccurate poll extrapolations many times to create a closer race than what reality shows.
One-sided, smear stories on the voter registration of Acorn (painted as a deliberate, fraud attempt on their part to steal the election for Obama) are also very useful.
Whereas, if pundits covered sufficiently the real theft/disenfranchisement through state and county tactics that remove 100's of thousands from exercising their voter rights, it would expose the true theft of this election.
The REPUBLICAN state and county election officials really know how to snatch Obama's victory from their perceived defeat.
Think of the mandate he might have had, if it was otherwise.
"Joe the Plumber"
He's a peach and plum of the goose-step right;
He'll work without a licence, just to start a fight.
His brawny skill to think to a greater height,
Is matched by his rosy air with a manly bite.
The words he snatches from a repug sentence,
Has all the flourish of a ghoulish dentist.
-behind the curtain 2008
In light of the enactment of DOMA one asks this question on many levels. There is this mostly, far-right, Christianist movement to protect the traditional heterosexual brand in a political sphere since the 70's. The double standard is appalling.
You have the Scott Peterson's and other "legitimately-married" felons entitled to all those niceties that Glenn cited (in and out of prisons) whose regard for marriage is as fleeting as a blind date with loose dentures.
Obama's policy agenda is a landmine field, which was demonstrated by Clinton's first years to be a gamble in any way he chooses to prioritize.
"If you live in a state where the bigoted assholes are pressing their agenda in opposition to basic decency and discourse, please join with me, and make every effort in your state to see a ban on same bigoted asshole marriage enacted."
-- Clockwork Smurf
There's the rub. We Americans pride ourselves in cultivating such a-holes for the future generations of a-holes. How, indeed can we stop the promulgating cycle of bigotry as an American right?
As you point out- one bigot raising children is bad enough. Double that power of parenting to convince one's children that certain citizens (they regard as a transitory label)are more entitled to love (with certain restrictions) than others outside the norm of comfort-zone marital bliss
