Scary name for a scary show.
I'm with "Bite Me" and "Rabbit Eater" (among MANY others). This series is cloying and annoying, and about as funny as a bucket of rocks. With so much brilliant - and brilliantly funny material - on the web, I don't understand why Kerry and the Gang can't get their shit together and post something half-way decent. "Hometown Baghdad" isn't the only worthwhile video series available. Just do a simple search on YouTube, LiveVideo, Blip.tv, Revver, et. al.
...NO ONE should be allowed to post anonymously, irrespective of whether Salon can track the person by other means. Joan Walsh's article about on-line mysoginy got nearly (has?) 700 letter responses. At the time the thread was still live, other threads were hitting numbers of 300 and 400. I think there were 3,000 total letters. There is NO WAY Salon staffers can keep up with all that, which means the "Anonymous" option will allow for continued abuse. Bet on it.
So I agree with the others here: NO on Anonymous.
And the guy wonders why he can't get a real job in acting.
Even you...you just don't know it yet. ;-)
With the new letters policy, Mr. Phoning-It-In and his Troll Allies will be known, if only to Salon. Or they'll quit postin' 'cause it ain't no fun no more neither.
Lately Maher's "New Rules" segment has been hit-or-miss. But this entry was pretty funny.
C'mon, Kerry. You can do better.
Sorry...couldn't resist.
...that's because most of the crap she peddles on her show TASTES like Gerber's.
She's my favorite columnist! From her acerbic wit to her piercing insights into world affairs, her entire oeuvre makes my tiddly wink!
(that of course was the "evil" Rob Anderson, from Episode 32 - "Who Pissed In My Cornflakes?")
And considering who wrote it, that's a hell of a surprise. Nevertheless, this article got very close to the heart of "The Soprano's" appeal. I've watched the show from the beginning, and although I've always believed it was both thematically and structurally a rip-off of "Goodfellas", it has changed by TV habits too. I can't imagine watching the crap on network TV, or even other cable networks. Although Showtime has had its share of good shows, HBO has turned itself into the 800 pound gorilla of quality television.
Nepotism is a dangerous thing. Just ask Pauly Shore.
"RoboCop" was one of the best films of the 1980s. By turns hilarious, poignant, violent and sophisticated, there have been few films like it in the 20 years since its release. Also, Paul Verhoeven deserves much more than the back-handed praise given to him by O'Hehir. Much more.
For Kerry's next trick, he'll introduce us to this guy named Judson Llaiply and his wicked-cool "Evolution of Dance."
I'll never forget the first time I heard that rap. NEVER. And that goes double for "Fight the Power." I'm sorry, but nothing Kayne West or Mos Def has ever done will compete. Grand Master Flash and Chuck D were the Lennon and McCartney of rap, even if they never worked together. They were and are brilliant, but sadly past their prime. Until someone with their talent and brilliance comes along, we'll all have to put up with bird-brains like Eminem...who isn't a half-bad actor. Maybe he should try a career change, for the sake of all rap fans.
I mean, really, somebody should report the fact that Rush Limbaugh slorped Cheney's cock on live, nationally broadcast radio!
But I'm going to go out on a limb with my fellow progressive-leftists and suggest that things cannot possibly be as bad as people like Patrick Cockburn and Robert Fisk have been suggestsing.
The folks in this documentary can go out in the middle of the day and eat in a nice restaurant, go to school, visit with friends and relatives, and generally do what they want and live as they want - within limits. They hear gunfire, worry about roadblocks and must be cautious, yes, but otherwise life appears strangely normal.
Or perhaps this documentary series is focusing on a very wealthy group of Iraqis? I don't know. But it's all becoming quite confusing. Either Iraq is a chaotic maelstrom of violence, or it's what were seeing in these documentaries. It can't be both.
This gem can be found in semi-regular rotation on either The Sundance Channel or The Independent Film Channel, I forget which. It can also be found on Netflix. It is VERY well worth the effort to see it.
It's a cosmic crime that he thrives while Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis and John Lennon have all departed. But for fuck's sake, it's KEITH FUCKING RICHARDS. I wouldn't be shocked if he claimed to have snorted his own mother's vagina.
Face it, dude - your friend's mother was fucking him.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
