Utah, outside of Salt Lake City, is a Christian theocracy. Gentiles, those who are not Morman, are outsiders. As a fundamentalist Christian, you will generally be treated with kindness and respect due a non-believer, but you will never be allowed to forget that you are not one of the faithful. You will have a difficult time getting a good job. Your kids will be ostracized in school for not being Morman. Most all of their teachers will be Morman and within a couple of years of public school, your kids will know more about Mormanism than your own religion. You will be shut out of the local culture because you do not go to the one and only true church. The people representing you in local, state and national government believe as you do, that "God" wanted them to be in government and that they represent the chosen people, which does not include you.

I'd like to say, get your head out of the bible and into a history book but it would be pointless. Your postings indicate that you are a poster child of religious fundamentalism--you want to be told what to do and would be a lot happier with a dictatorship than in a democracy.

I read about it and I see it... middle class young women who think the way to fame and fortune is to expose their lady parts for the world to see or spread their legs for any pig with money. It will be interesting to see how these women counsel their daughters when they come home crying because their boss felt them up and told them it was a condition of their employment. While these women were "getting busy" laws will revert back to the 1950's and '60's. Their daughters will be treated in the manner their mothers acted...like a bunch of whores.

Several of my brothers still live in this Congressional district. One of them is a staunch Republican but he is as sickened as I am by the Republican's actions under the Bush administration. I do not think he will be voting for Gutknecht or any other Republican.

Up to 2001, I could not understand how it was that one of the most advanced cultures on earth, the German culture, could succumb to the Nazis and live with, if not actively participate in, the Holocaust. I did not think that something like that could ever happen here because Americans would fight for preservation of their freedoms and to maintain a government of some integrity, irrespective of whether they were left leaning or right leaning.

I was wrong. Our government is a stinking cesspool of lies, greed, and contempt for citizens of our country. Our freedoms are going, going, gone. Citizens are passively letting it happen, drugged by a corporate media matrix or religious crackpot theologies.

The cities of Shanghai and Beijing are being re-built to be true cities of the 21st century. The streets are safe and the mass transit is something we can only dream about--it is cheap, clean, new, and universal. There is an optimism in China that I do not see in the United States. They are addressing and solving problems. We just whine and accept and wait for death. This may be due in part to demographics. China has a population that is much younger than the population of the US.
