i came to know this neighbor (still alive in her 80's) who came to the usa in the 1960s and established a private school near here. Conversations with her i found to be interesting. As a girl in rastenburg prussia (near mister hitler's famous lair retreat) she recalled her runs with the other cheering children as der furor passed close in his benz-mobile. As a teen she attended both indoor & outdoor rallies which mister hitler, mister himmler & others of note spoke. (2 of her brothers , by the way disapeared in the russian winter). Anyway, a common cheer she recalled went like this; "Wir sind Fortschrittlich ! Wir sind ein Volk" --- which she translated as --- we are the Progressives We are the People --- and something more re: We are the future --- the part relating to Progress caught my attention only in that seemed to echo the modern day cant of Liberals who are too wimpishly humiliated to use the term any more.
