Electoral College as legitimate today as it was in 1787
[Read the article: Let's abolish the Electoral College]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Those who propose an end to the Electoral College appear to be mainly made up of sore loosers from the squeaker Election of 2000. Bush Junior, accordingly has been knighted the Illegitimate President because the popular vote would have, may have, nudged him into political oblivion -- a dark place from which Mister Gore is beginning to alight from.
Few are quick to point out that Mister Clinton was Swept into office with a minority vote count. And yet he went on to do just fine -- in spite of the Great American Political Slugfest that followed. Lincoln was another minority vote count President. There have been many.
Sadly we've become a nation run by two bloated corrupt political parties --- money buys up & runs this Land of the Free. The founding daddies put the Electoral System together for good reason and foresight.
Some of us fled the Megalopolis to find succor in the countryside. Get rid of the Electoral System and all of the CNN/Fox/PBS cameras are going to stop guaging the entire nation for their wants. Every politician from that day forward will spend all the time & money he or she has in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and another dozen cities --- and, truth be told, pay no lip service to the Normal People --- like me.

quibbling verbiage
[Read the article: Let's abolish the Electoral College]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]majority -- minority -- plurality -- singularity ---
On the surface, the Ennniskillen Point is as pointless as a ping-pong ball.
Lincoln, Wilson, Clinton, et al --- were all plopped down into the Oval Office with a minority count of votes from the electorate -- i.e. --- Most of the Voters wanted another bloke to lead 'em to glory & prosperity.
So the questtion becomes .... what exactly makes a legitmate president "legitimate" ??

Al Gore -- The Goofy One of the 1990s Duet
[Read the article: Gore for the Nobel? How about Petraeus?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It Zooms past Disbelief -- (like a Speeding Bullet) -- how any American can look up at Al Gore with Star-Filled Eyes and consider him to be presidential -- "material"
Have none read Congress's 9/11 Commision Report ??
Meester Gore was given --- as were all thumb-twiddling VPs before him --- an Idiot's Job when he took his place as the slobbery, tail-wagging VP lap-dog of Mister Bill.
One of the few --- very few -- jobs of import that was handed to algore during his 8 year tenure was to head a commision that was established to determine how the gurgling, surfacing threats of Mister O's new Jihad should be neutralized.
Bill to Al: "Use yer Nogin, Al. Cover all them bases, Babie"
So Al uses his noodle and posts some serious wide-eyed double-duty at the air ports, without immagining the somewhat obvious. "Yaas-Suh, Meester President, Did My Duty, bases covered, Suh"
The exhaustive 9/11 commission left no rug unturned in their study. But their basic conclusion was that a "lack of immagination" on the part of "The Powers That Were" was the culprit for having failed to catch THE SECOND TIME AROUND STRIKE against the World Trade Center.
Conclusion: Al Gore is not a very immaginative nor deep thinker. (and out of 260 million Americans we were given the choice of selecting from two dim-wits ??? -- and then, in two elections in a row !!!)
Except for a couple of brief breakaways, i've lived at the very shoreline of sea-level for the past 40-plus years. The tiny beaches on the offshore islets that I played on as a kid are still there -- as are the same pier levels at the Ala Wai Yacht Basin I sailed out of 40-plus years ago.
Changes ?? Nada !! The Same -- No diff. -- Shure, snows is melting -- but not so dramatically as, according to many sober climatologists (without a political axes ($$$) to bare as the Fear-Mongering Gore Charts with their Massive Extrapolations of NYC being washed out to sea would suggest.
His slick "Sky is Falling" con-job sniffs of a rant by another Washington Politico who screeched loud WMDs.
Al Gore & Bush Junior, -- just a cupple 'o plain ol Goofy, Good OId Boys.

Talkalike Chums
[Read the article: Al Gore's win, America's loss]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Perhaps the best reason to dismisS the gorein08 'charge' comes from the drippy, admiring statement of support from expresident jimmy --- argueably the most disasterous occupier of the offaloffice in human history (alongside, perhaps andy johnson, dick nixon, benj. harrison & j.q. adams)
.. and what a disaster the jimmynightmare was for the nation -- especially in light of Joe & Sally America's sincere yearning for a decent fellow to lead them back to Glee following the bubbly aftershocks of the postwatergatepostnam nausea of 1975.
but within 4 short years of guiding our wonder-full ship-o-state from the helm, jimmy, usa & co. found themselves deluged by, and convusing in, double-diget inflation, massive unemployment and plop down on their stage-fright knees before a pack of mulling mullahs.
and within those four brief years EVERY SINGLE CARTER CABINET member jumped the sinking ship.
And to further claify the chaos, when Jimmy's Re-election bid came up (anyone remember ??) his own party came close to dumping him as little teddie's stock began to soar .... till rogerdogermudd played the chappaquiddddick ace card to the suddenly slobering, mumbling, bead-sweating presidentialwannabe. jimmy owed roger, big-time -- but it weren't enough to stave his onslaught from a ------ Class B Movie Actor !!!
and yet ..... it goes w/o saying that Jimmie appears to be a far more sincere reader of the bibble than our present bibble reader.
-- and he shure gits my vote as the nicest, kindest, gentlest, sweetest earthling to have ever stood at the Oval Helm. --- but c'mon -- he was as embarrasingly lousy as they come in managing his own government, party, cabinet --- and family (recall brother BILLY's secret mission to libya??)
... which brings to mind one of the great questions ... what could possibly have been going on in Gov. Bill Clinton's mind after his first night spent with a six-pack of "BILLY BEER" ???
