There WERE catholic SS units supported by the catholic church, that is a fact, they were called the Ustasha. Their prime goal in life was to kill orthodox christians...they would even line up children and have them do the sign of the cross, the kids who did it right to left (the non catholic way) died. Pretty stupid and horriable, ya.
There was also muslim ss units in the Balkens, supported by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. They gave the Ustasha a run for their money in the killing people in horriable ways department.
So, as we can see, Nazis of all religions and creeds were assholes.

Ustasha were not simply anti communist partisans. The UstaĊĦe enacted race laws patterned after those of the Third Reich, which were aimed against Jews and Roma, but predominately Serbs, who were collectively declared enemies of the Croatian people. Serbs, Jews, Roma and Croatian anti-fascists, including Communist Croats and dissident priest were interned in concentration camps.
Some former priests, mostly Franciscans, took part in the atrocities themselves.
Avro Manhattan: "The Vatican's Holocaust", under similar photograph, on page 68, says (quote):
"Converting" the Orthodox Serbs, December 21st, 1941, Friars, besides Priests, participated in forcible conversions. They were no less ruthless than the parish clergy, e.g. Monk Ambrozije Novak, Guardian of the Capucine Monastery in Varazdin, who, after surrounding the village of Mosanica with Ustashi contingents, told the people: "You Serbs are condemned to death, and you can only escape that sentence by accepting Catholicism." Catholic padres ran concentration camps; Catholic priests were officers of the military corps which committed such atrocities. With full knowlage and no condemnation from the Vatican.
the point is simply that both Catholic priests and Muslim clerics were willing accomplices in the genocide and that religion was a major motivator:
The Croatian Nazi Mile Budak, who was a Minister in the Ustasha regime talked on 6th June 1941 at a meeting in Krizevci:
"We are a state of two religions: Catholicism and Islam"
(in other words, no jews, serbs, gypsies)
In July 1941, at another meeting in Gospic, Bosnia, Budak made his infamous statement:
"We will kill one part of them, the other part we will resettle, and the remaining ones we will convert to the Catholic faith, and thus make Croats of them."
This was especially true in regards to the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar/369th Reinforced Regiment/ 7 SS Prinz Evgen ect.

The point of all this is: Hitler's religion is not important, because Nazis came in every religion, from Catholic to Lutheran, to Muslim, and so forth....and one can argue that the Militant Catholic volunteers and Muslim ss units were some of the most violent and horriable.
The Nazis used religion to their great advantage, from getting rid of Jews to Crushing partisan revolts...Hitler found religion a very good tool.

I've had a commander who was a born again christian..I've had one who was an athiest... I've had a squad leader who was muslim.
I have one buddy who is all about McCain...I have another who still is in love with Ron Paul... Heck, I had a plt leader who voted for Kucinich and I another one who thought Reagan was the 2nd coming.
Some guys are a little bit country, others are a little bit rock and roll.
