Vice President had the right of way!
[Read the article: The Cheney shooting: Blame the victim]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sure as shootin, it's the same as if the VP were driving somewhere and had the green but a pedestrian walked against the Don't Walk flasher. In that case, the Veep clearly has the right to continue on, the pedestrian is at fault. We are a nation that follows the Rule of Law. Let's not forget that.

Did I miss an announcement?
[Read the article: Rush Limbaugh and the little blue pill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I haven't seen any reports of Rush getting married since his third divorce. Why on earth would an umarried Republican man need Viagra? Something is wrong with this story. Please get FOX News to investigate!

sweet
[Read the article: Bush to widow: "No point" in talking about the war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, but did he give her a hug?

Joe, Joe, Joe...
[Read the article: War critics as Nazi appeasers? How about slavery supporters?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Okay, enough is enough. There's not a person here that would have cheered the death of either of those two Fox news employees. Every day, dozens of Iraqis and also many other non-gov types are kidnapped for money or retribution of some kind. Many end up dead.
There was quite a lot of criticism of freelancer Jill Carroll during and after her stint as hostage. There was more than one Freeper who wished her dead, or accused her of collaborating or being an Al Qaeda sympathiser. Upon her release, and while she was still in the hands of the Iraqi govt., she told the tv audience that she had been "well-treated" by her captors. Immediately, she was accused of "aid and comfort" to the enemy. For a statement she made under duress.
The latest two hostages from Fox were "invited" to convert to Islam during their capture. They were told they would be unharmed if they did so. Because they did, Jonah Goldberg and other bloggers have declared these two men to be spineless. They actually wanted them to be willing to die rather than to say they converted in order to stay alive. Also, some bloggers stated that if they found themselves in a similar situation, they "hoped they would" be able to deny a conversion, and be heroes in death. What bullsquat!
I'm not making this stuff up; go look through the internets yourself.

My prediction
[Read the article: Hack the vote? No problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Too bad it was Princeton and not Bob Jones U or Oral Roberts or wherever that discovered this. We all know what a hotbed of far-left liberals that Princeton place is.
The bullyboy and girl punditry will deny this study. It doesn't fit well with their ideology or worldview. They prefer faith-based "facts" to scientific study.

Powell should zip it!
[Read the article: Powell: Bush tactics cause world to doubt the United States]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Colin Powell keeps saying that our "tough interrogations" may put our own soldiers at risk of being tortured by captors. Doesn't he realize he is just giving the terrorists ideas? Any time we talk about our strategies, we are opening our playbook to the Evil Ones.

I like the 3rd frame
[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Those soldiers and their comments would look great on a t-shirt, Tom Tomorrow!

Shine me on, dead man
[Read the article: "Ridiculous," "out of control" and just plain "goofy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I can't find a good link to the origins of the phrase, but I have probably seen it in a Stephen King book, at the very least. Imagine going to someone with a concern and they nod and smile and understand and say they will do their utmost to take care of it. And then they don't.
Brother, they just shined you on.

How about Samantha Bee?
[Read the article: Where the girls aren't: The Times Magazine's comedy issue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is she "mean' or "bitter"? Or mean and bitter? I think she is freakin' hilarious, and not afraid to make herself look the fool on The Daily Show. TDS, by the by, was created by two women: Lizz Winstead and Madeleine Smithberg!
The Daily Show has also enjoyed the comedy of Beth Littleford, as a correspondent, and Sarah Vowell, Tracey Ullman and Bonnie Hunt among their funny women guests. Nor have I seen mention of Gilda Radner, who was great.
I suppose at this place, in this time, women comics are less in favor than some decades. Maybe it's that audiences want to see women entertainers fully plasticized, with no hard edges. Many a woman has grown up knowing her sense of humor was one of her best assets.
There are probably dozens of psychological and sociological explanations for why women are not killing audiences every bit as much as their male counterparts. "Women just aren't as funny," isn't one of them.

Crazy Plane
[Read the article: Flying the boob-hating skies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have yet to figure out who was getting too much of an eyeful of the nursing mom. And everything I have read previously about airline blankets and pillows would definitely keep those germ rags away from my infant.
Oddly enough, I wonder what would have happened if she had draped herself and her baby with Raed Jarrar's "World Can't Wait" T-shirt?

And Amy Sedaris!
[Read the article: Where the girls aren't: The Times Magazine's comedy issue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I bitterly regret not naming her in my other post. And I mean it.

Sounds downright Dickensian
[Read the article: If you didn't get it, you don't know Jack]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"That's if you can get to a phone, of course. Like most federal prisons, Cumberland has far more inmates than the prison can hold. There are few phones available and long lines, so the likelihood of our chatting on the phone is not great..."
Gee, overcrowding in our federal prisons. That's just criminal! It just sounds as if life it really hard when you lose the financial and political protection of the heavy hitters you've courted for so long. Maybe when Jack is finally paroled, he can be a lobbyist for the poor and incarcerated. He has all the connections; maybe he can put them to good use for a change.
