and ya know what? The VP is a member of the executive branch. Here's the line from Article II (titled "The Executive Branch"):
"The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice-President chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:"
Here's another mention:
"Section 4 - Disqualification
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."
Now, what might be confusing to Dick Cheney, is that the VP is also mentioned in Article I ("The Legislative Branch") thusly:
"Section 3 - The Senate
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, (chosen by the Legislature thereof,) (The preceding words in parentheses superseded by 17th Amendment, section 1.) for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote."
....
"The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided."
So, though the VP is the titular president of the senate, he is not electd to the senate, nor does he have any constitutionakl powers to legislate: only to break ties. He is elected by the voters to serve with the president, and (get this!) is subject to the same laws as the president.
Go figure, Dick!
I think you underestimate the Right's ability to exempt themselves from their idealogy.
Exhibit A: proud Grandfather Dick Cheney.
we've had 0 terrorist attacks on US soil since 2001, but the majority of tha American people feel Bush is doing a piss-poor job, and the country is headed in the wrong direction.
When should we expect the Coalition to arrive?
(And I'm sure it was calcareous who tipped the scales)
Mrs Edwards. You define "class". (While Ms Coulter defines "trash"). You had he on the ropes (did you see how she played with her hair? And that mock-mock-nervous giggle?) It's a small victory, but it was a great moment for truth an integrity over hateful deceit.
(And thanks, Joan, for the link. I'd made my husband turn the tv off before Mrs Edwards called in).
I am always amazed at people who speak about "Judeo-Christian" values and then use Jesus Christ to describe them.
Jews did (and do) not believe Jesus Christ was the messiah. (Duh). They thought (and think) he was a nice, but confused, rabble-rousing, Jewish boy. Unless they are members of "Jews for Jesus."
The Jews and the Christians share the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. If one wants to make references to Judeo-Christian values, they should refer to the Old Testament. I therefore suspect when people talk about Judeo-Christian values, they really mean Christian values. "Judeo-Christian" is a figleaf, much like "some of my best friends are ..." .
I still am not clear what a "Christian value" is. Given how many politicized Christians behave to the poor and the sick, I'm pretty sure it has little to do with the Sermon on the Mount, or any of the dozens of directives from Chriist for people to take care of each other. I'm also pretty sure that Catholic values, Lutheran values, Mormon values, and Unitarian values (whatver any of those might be) aren't "Christian values" either, unless they happen to coincide with Evangelical Protestant values.
As near as I can tell, "Christian values" seems to mean vote conservative republican, strip everyone except white Christian males of most of their rights, relegate women to brood-mare status, hold the rest of the world in contempt, destroy the planet, and allow the spiritual and political leaders to behave like the denizens of "Animal House."
Look, I'm no fan of push-polls, but there is an ocean separating the alleged Clinton push-poll to Ann Coulter's Tourette's-induced bile spewing.
There is a world of difference between saying "This man wasted money on his hair: vote for me!" and "This man capitalized on his own son's death" or "I wish this man were dead. Please kill him!"
You are brilliant. Did you cc Senator Waxman on this? I would.
Cheney need a tune-up on his pace-maker this summer. Which may prompt him to need to spend more time with his family. And then Bush could appoint a new VP who would be electable in 08. Fred Thompson might be standing by.
Does this make anyone else want to barf?
Cheney's next doctor's visit will reveal his pacemaker needs repair. That, combined with his desire to spend time with his newest grandson, will compel Cheney to retire from his duties as VP. This will happen (coincidebntally!) just in time for the primaries. Thompson will be installed as Cheney's replacement. The media will drool all over him (Ooh, he's just like Reagan!) and he will be the Republican nominee for 08. He'll then be able to campaign on his excutive "experience" as VP over "mere" senators Cklinton or Obama (since Cheney changed his mind and remenvered the VP is part of the executive branch).
Meanwhile, Cheney will still control the administration from the shadows, off the payroll and free from any oversight.
Anyone else hear the horsemen?
we need people to protect children. Because children have *no* *idea* of the potential consequences of their actions.
Ten year old girls *may* look like teenagers from a distance, but any sensible person can see their immaturity in how they speak, think, act and respond to adult attention.
I don't care if she was wearing a tshirt that read "Put Your Dick Here" pointing to her crotch. That was a little girl. The 24 year-old man had no business touching her, even if she begged him to.
She was betrayed be everyone around her, including this judge.
