i dunno

Like most american jews, i also was brought up under the "jerusalem, neverd divided again" banner. But visiting there a couple of times, i realized that it already is divided, de facto; Jewish Jerusalem and Arab Jerusalem might as well have a wall between them. Turn right instead of left after leaving the Old City, or veer off the main street when visiting the Rockefeller Museum, and all of a sudden you're somewhere where dangerous looking guys are openly tossing empty bottles at police cars who decide the best thing is not to stop and discuss it.

So, with what is apparently a substantial groups of Israelis, I wonder if it might not be enough to just keep the Old City as part of Israel, and let Palestine have the rest of East Jerusalem, escept for the Rockefeller Museum? Those who want to visit the Holy Sepulchre can negotiate with the PA or Hamas or whoever.

blackwater deployed domestically

Oh, no problem. After all, we have the Second Amendment, so all these guys who are so insistent that our freedom to fight government tyranny are threatened by NYC's efforts to target gun shops down south whose main business is supplying criminals in NYC will undoubtedly pick up their arms and defeat the Blackwater mercenaries. After all, look at how they stood up against the government when it imprisoned people just because they were Japanese-Americans. OK, bad example. Well, look at how they rose up to protect civil rights workers in the south against local law enforcement's collusion with murderous Klan members. OK, another bad example. Well, look at how they came from all over the country to protect wives and children of striking coal miners from the Army. OK, another bad example. Well, look at how they put a stop to the Republican "Brooks Brothers Riot" terrorising the Miami canvassing board. OK, another bad example. But look at "Red Dawn"! Yeah, that's it!

potty mouth

"Decade my ass

The Jews have been blood sucking scorpions for 2000 years.

That's a fine way to talk about your savior, the Son of God, and his parents.

silly liberals

You silly folks in the reality-based community. Haven't the Bushies taught you anything?

Obviously

Mitt Romney happens to know who his father was, and it's not George Romney.

Original article: Quote of the day

in the real world

Not sure how many folks watch the news regarding our great northern neighbor of tolerance and cultural mosaics, but on Dec. 10, 2007, a 16 year old girl was strangled to death by her father in a Toronto suburb, when she expressed her desire to stop wearing a headscarf to school.

To give credit where credit is due, the national president of the "Islamic Supreme Council of Canada" went on a 48 hour hunger strike, to draw attention to the issue of family violence in the Muslim community. This didn't get as much media play, resulting in the usual number of letters to the editor, 'Why don't moderate Muslims say something about this killing?'

The Canadian branch of the "Islamic Society of North America" "said it is forbidden to hit anyone, adding that taking away a human life is an act against all humanity. 'No religion condones such an act,'" but had to tack on a message about this being because the parents had failed to teach the kid the benefits of proper dress.
