We believe in Jesus, but not what he said.

"Is the United States so primitive that only a Jesus Christer can be elected to the Presidency?"

it's such a cliche these days to note that if JC dared to raise his head in today's America, his most vocal and public "followers" would... well, crucify him, at very least figuratively. I hasten to note that this should not be taken as an attack on all the humble followers of Christ who do seem to have actually gotten the message and are doing what they can to make the world a better place.

But seriously, what if the US encountered this bearded guy in robes rambling through the desert with a bunch of followers, preaching an end to nationalism and empires and American-style materialism, and calling for institution of God's kingdom on earth... is there any doubt he'd quite literally be waterboarded in Gitmo? At minimum?
