ARPANET

Fell under the auspices of the United States Department of Defense. The basis for which are found in the writings of JCR Licklider, of Bolt, Berick and Newman, a technology company. he wrote the backbone of the concept for the internet in 1962. Licklider moved to the Department of Defense in 1963, where he began to construct what we know currently as the Internet. But it certainly didn't always look like it does now, we I had my first modem 1200 baud, we logged into the local computer at school and then experimented with other university telnet sites, the original unix internet, that was 1981. We could also access some other government computers. It was a great research tool, it continued to develop and has become a graphically interfaced so anyone can use it. But it was developed by the department of defense make no mistake about it.

It is interesting to me that some folks seem to believe the RAND corporation invented the Intertubes... morons. You don't know anything, and that isn't surprising.

@FaulknerJr

Hi Faulk! Haven't typed at you in a while. You are welcome about ARPANET! I think anyone who is a follower of the RAND corp is a cultist ninny. I think they live in their warped world, then they bring up morality. What about the morality of Ayn Rand who seduced a young man while she was still married. The cult of Ayn Rand, a freakish woman, warped truly warped. I am not saying her life circumstances didn't cause that, but my guess is that is the same way Jim Jones' followers worshiped him. But the lie about the Internet is incredible. Many government entities had responsibilities for the development of the internet, and Mr. Licklider was the man whose vision was the internet and he did work for the DoD, ARPA. JPL was another great contributor to the technology as was LLL. Contractors did some work on those systems but very little, there were many more government scientists at the time, and JPL and LLL were steeped in R&D of all kinds of interesting technologies, microwave technology, heat resisting technology, you name it came from there. That is a time when we put money into our programs, we put money into scientific research, this was all the result of things that went on in the 19840's. Because let's face it in 1948 the original work went on to create the first computer.

The Rand thing pisses me off though. I hate inaccuracy. I hate that people cannot see the importance of government funded research and development. Ayn Rand and her cult followers are loons and morons.

The Bondwoman's Narrative

Edited by Henry Louis Gates Jr. Is the best book I've ever read. Read the preface fully before venture into the book, but seriously, if you want an incredible piece of writing by a slave in 1830 or around there, pick it up, I cannot recommend it enough. I actually believe it ought to be required reading when studying antebellum America.

@cwnidog

I know exactly what you mean! Hah! I got kicked out of CCD when I was 13, I pointed out the lack of logic in a statement he'd just made. I asked him to explain the logic, and he got mad. He yelled at me and made me leave the room. He told my mom I had to apologize if I was going to be allowed to return, she looked at me and then at him and said "Sorry Father, I can't make her do that, you should have answered her questions". Yes it was 1975. I've never taken religion seriously since then.

@mtalman

It began yesterday, read about Andrew Breitbarts attacks on Senator Kennedy. He twittered his twisted attacks as a matter of fact. As a result all his followers were out in force delivering their attacks left and right, one more time, one last cheap political shot, one last way to diminish the life of a man, but in fact they end up diminishing only themselves.

Check out my facebook smack down of one of Breitbarts minions: I blogged about it this morning.

Republicans

Have allowed the lunatics to take over their party, they are scaring regular people. So I say, just let Republicans continue to support the wacky freakish lunatic racist behavior of their most crazed constituents. Everything that happens, every crazy thing they do is filmed, these things are all on youtube! Democrats can use every bit of that against Republicans in the next several elections. It could be great. Censure is a waste of time especially because our legislators have real work to do. The plus side of this is that Democrats and progressives will be able to use all this madness against incumbents who supported and encouraged all the craziness. Let the games continue!
