The Larger Issue

Texas is so large and serves such a large student population textbooks. As a buyer of textbooks this state has much more influence about what is included and not included in textbooks. I have to say this decision is a terrible decision and will have a ripple affect around the nation as school districts update their textbooks. There are long term effects we must all be concerned about and it will impact school districts around the country.

The question has to be asked, "How dumb do we want our children to be?"

Of course the so-called gaps in evolution are completely manufactured by Creationists, or Discovery Institute folks. But seriously folks, how dumb do we want our children? Strengths and weaknesses in Evolutionary theory, I am tired of these folks trying to high jack the nation to their wacko, medieval belief systems. We look foolish as a nation, neanderthal, even though creationists don't believe in that I am sure. We are allowing a minority to control the conversation, we must take it back.

@tailwind

Theory is the analysis of a set of facts in their relation to one another, for example, Gravity, just a theory! But that doesn't mean it isn't correct. Evolution and it's so called gaps is simply another manufactured controversy because the public has allowed it to become one.

I know

It was a joke. Nothing flies up when we drop it! Whatever, the larger issue is Texas influence on the textbook publishing industry. This will spread because of their influence, it is notorious for infecting public education around the country because of it's undue influence over educational publishing, meaning even if you are not in Texas, your students will be affected by decisions made there. Hence, manufactured controversy. Wingers have manufactured the so-called controversy by saying there are "gaps" in evolution, without ever identifying said gaps. (because they cannot). Their own ideologies depend on others believing their is a controversy. There are no controversies surrounding Gravity, right. There are no controversies in evolutionary biology when it comes to "gaps" whatever those are, the Discovery Institute never defines what those gaps are, because of course they merely intend to inflict religion on students, they never really want critical thought.

Sorry it was as funny to you as it was to me! What isn't a joke is and I repeat this here "the effect this will have on school districts around the country." It is concerning, and really, how dumb do we want our children to be? Medieval dumb it sounds like.

Anyway I am just a computer scientist, I can't do the evolution part, but I can crunch your numbers.

I know what you mean

When you say he is family and you love him even if you don't agree with him. I love my dad, but he and I never agree when it comes to politics, he gets hateful sometimes.

But I like your story, it does remind us all that almost everyone has some redeeming qualities, especially to his family! And even I might feel a little better about your cousin, cause he treats his family well and in the end that is what it is all about isn't it.

In the Words of Kanye West

Governor Mark Sanford doesn't care about black people. He does not care about poor people either, and I wonder why anyone thought he did.

Wish I cared

Hopefully a democrat will step up and challenge him in the Primary. Sometimes when you have been in office to long it is time to go, hopefully the Senator will do the right thing and not run again.

Loving Netflix: Kissed Blockbuster good bye three years ago

I love netflix, it is worth every penny. I stream movies through my mac mini and my kids can stream movies through their X-boxes, movies arrive overnight, there is never a late fee. I've even received broken DVD's and they replace them immediately before I even send the CD back. It is an incredible company. Blockbuster, we have the classic problems with them, my other complaint with blockbuster is they do not have a large selection of movies on hand. Obviously they carry a good number of movies but Netflix carries everything I've looked for so far.

NO IT IS NOT

The United States never has been a so-called Christian nation. The Constitution explicitly eliminates that possibility. For all those who continue to quote "We hold these truths to be self evident....." That is a quote from the Declaration of Independence morons! It is not a governing document. The Declaration of Independence is one of the best pieces of propaganda out there but it is not and will never be a governing document. Also please understand "Creator" does not mean a Christian God.

Amazon doesn't do the rankings

People who come to the site do, so it is probably the Christianites out there looking to pump up their numbers and looking to sabotage these works. It was Easter I imagine they were out in force. I can't believe they don't know Easter is actually Zombie Jesus day. Don't necessarily blame this on Amazon though, they don't do the rankings themselves.
