  • I Get It!

[Read the article: "Sopranos" wrap-up: Uncomfortably numb]

Let me say up front that both Adriana and I were smiling when Tony finally decided to cut his losses with Christopher. He's put up with all the 12-step crap and "my precious baby" b.s. from his former heir apparent and finally, hearing that this rose-smeller is back on the hard stuff and looking at the smashed car seat, Tony makes a decision. Out of anger, sure, but I can't see that it is anything but the right decision at the right time.

But thank you to captainlarab for his take on that final, "I get it!" Tony is seeing what Christopher loved about the life as lived by the non-leader. It also shows me why AJ is doomed if he tries to go into the business as he lacks the base joy-in-thuggery exhibited by his current brat pack (or Chrissy), plus he doesn't evidence any of his father's aptitude for living in such a way that he can pass judgment on those around him AND act as executioner when he feels so justified.

I believe Tony is on more than one high at the moment and this is going to make watching him go down ever so much more gutwrenching!

  • Thank you for having some sense!!!

[Read the article: Rev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After listening to the host of NPR's usually on-point "Fair Game" riff stupidly on the 'crazy uncle' spin by her calling her own 'crazy uncle' to have him agree with her that no good American would ever say the terrible things that Wright said, no matter how drunk or crazy, I've despaired of seeing anyone put their flag down long enough to really look at Wright's statements.

Anything pronounced from a pulpit is automatically suspect to me, but some of what Wright is saying does ring true with my gist of what has gone on and continues to go on in this country. As the article points out, it wasn't Wright who sent 4000 (so far) off to die - why is he the big bad enemy?

It is a point in Barak Obama's favour that he does have a relationship with someone who has the chutzpah to say out loud what others, others who have been historically denied (via violence and legislation) the right to say what they have seen, may be thinking. He's level-headed enough to pull the facts out of what Wright is saying and hopefully, he will remember them should he be in a position to act on them. And maybe he will also have chutzpah to someday tell his fellow Americans some of the things that we don't want to hear about the outcome of our way of doing things.

  • Oh yeah!

[Read the article: Who put this feminism in my porno?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I had the pleasure of knowing a wonderful lesbian pornographer (Pendra) in Seattle who presented a very interesting demo/lecture on porn that explored the range of sexuality that could and is shown in porn. She also showed a tiny bit of the usual dreck so that the difference was made very apparent.

As I once noted during a discussion on porn, people in caves drew "dirty" pictures: the desire to express sexuality is fairly widespread - women must control some of the ways and means of producing those images so that they can reflect something other than a stunted 15yo boy's view of sexuality.
