Many other real reasons have been mentioned, so why this tortured bullshit?
This article, I assume, is a parody of conspiracy theory? Because I've never seen such straining and contrivance outside the film JFK(which, as nobody recalls, claims that a conspiracy of fascist homosexuals killed him). And by the way, I lived in Chicago a total of twelve years, and I was the ONLY PERSON I KNEW that refused to have AC. My former wife bought one and put it in the bedroom. I lived close to the lake too, and while it may be cooler there than Western Avenue...uh. It's still muggy, punishing hot. One reason I moved to Seattle last year, a place where AC really isn't ever needed. Everyone in the last building I lived in had one. I know because of the constant dripping they did on my windowsill.
Oh, and old people who didn't have AC in Chicago died in mass numbers not that long back(you may have heard of this), and it still kills them. The ones who live through the summers do.
Plenty of people in the north have AC. Pardon me for being blunt, but you're talking out of your ass. And you make liberals look really, really silly, and we don't need that.
"All of which is about as silly as this article. Except for that [Lovecraft] story. Read that. You'll never feel the same about air conditioning again."
I don't think too many of us have some Mr. Freeze-like condition where we'll melt into a disgusting flesh puddle if exposed to normal temperatures.
And just as qualified to be president.
Just sayin'.
The cynicism this choice reflects defies belief. I wonder how many women are insulted that this was the most formidable female politician McCain felt comfortable picking. Obama picked someone with gravitas that is capable of overshadowing him. No worries for McCain here.
This is only an attempt to pick off the more deranged Hillary democrats and to try to trump Biden in the debates. Because the only thing she'll have is reminding everyone about Anita Hill. Which is a point, but the only one, and an ancient one.
So the Republicans just now do something the Democrats did 24 years ago, and that's supposed to be impressive? No, the "social change" this signals--picking a woman for a responsible position--has already occurred in society at large. What this underlines is how out of touch, and we're talking decades, the GOP are. But in their gated community times seems different, I'm sure, and they don't get a lot of updates.
What will they do next, brag about how they saw a black man drinking after them at a water fountain and DIDN'T call the cops? Man, I wish they WOULD say something like that...
I can't, however, wait for you to start telling us how "concerned" this makes you for Obama.
Oh my god, so there IS a Hillary supporter who can be fooled by all this and only has to be dangled a female candidate.
Besides everything else, she also appointed a known sexual harasser. Viz:

Really? This is a candidate for Democratic women? So it's not the issues that affect women that you care about but the mere fact of her gender?
Just join the GOP, sell Salon to the NRO and get it over with. My god.
He met her once, last February, and he makes this decision?
He might as well have given the slot to Bush's caddy. Oh wait, that's him.
Oh, and she's a Buchanan backer too.
Three days of lots of people doing web research on her will turn up a lot. We already know she's a reactionary, corrupt, inexperienced, and ignorant, and that McCain barely knows her and picked her because she's a woman and (the bone to the media)good-looking.
By next week, she WILL be Harriet Miers.
Her son is going to a war in which he could die, but she hasn't thought much about it. Well, I guess with so many kids one doesn't make much difference.
I notice too that this makes James Dobson happy. So, PUMAs, time to see: are you really this gullible? And in Hillary's words--were you for HER or for the country?
I mean, the personality cult, it's a bit Republican, innit?
And even David Frum has figured out this was, for McCain, a bad idea.

Actually, I'm glad he did it. It assures his defeat.
So Salon is dedicated to raising two kinds of awareness nowadays: pork and McCain. Which is redundant, of course.
It's all right you took so long to talk about Obama's speech and were so easily distracted by the lightweight stunt-nominee Palin, Joan. You have priorities to consider.
But what a misleading headline! "Fighting Barack Obama." You do realize that this phrasing seems to imply the work "against" should be in there, right? I'm just curious, given that you're an experienced journalist.
Or does Salon: the Parody subcontract your headlines now?
Jeezus.
...but Breathed has been ill, I believe, and nobody will be drawing Opus if he's not.
My hope is that he's drawing Opus for a very, very long time. But this strip is a little chilling.
