@something stinks

We don't need to smear Palin, my friend. All that one needs to do is press "record" and she'll do it all by herself. You could ask her what she thinks of the weather and she'd immediately go into a flustered little rage and repeat "maverick" till the bad man asking the gotcha questions went away.

The problem terminal-stage Republicans have, and the only reason you always go straight to the hateful dirty tricks, is that you have no policies or issues that most people care about, and when you have the government you usually do nothing with it but make sure no one can take it away from you, and try to suck as much for yourselves and your allies from the public purse as you can. So all you can do is try to destroy the other guy, and win by being the default.

This time you can't do that, and either it's REALLY pissing you off, or you've decided to sit this one out while someone else has to clean up after you. The latter seems the most likely. I'm beginning to think that Rove and Kristol figured all they could get out of this election is introduce another useful idiot-pawn that they could groom for the future(and if McCain won, they'd figure, all the better as she'd probably be president soon after), and fuck John McCain one last time for old times' sake. He's this year's Bob Dole. I'd almost feel sorry for McCain, but he's been totally complicit, and scorched his own soul. It is kind of tragic, though. Like Macbeth is tragic.

Why Are We Surprised...

...to find out that the right wing are, in fact, NOT political geniuses? Evil or otherwise. I imagine this might have had more traction in the earlier days of the campaign, when the right-wing noise machine was still behind McCain, but at this point, it's desperate, insane, and half-assed to boot.

They were never geniuses, it's just nobody really challenged them. Now they're being treated the same as anyone else would and it shocks THEM. They got used to cowed Americans not interfering--not believing them or agreeing with them, but being scared enough of them to shut up, which, like only winning elections by ambiguous razor margins, is good enough for Republicans.

But now their bullshit gets called as such, and the bullshit-callers are NOT being destroyed in the RWNM because it's out of fuel. McCain has turned to the base as his only support, except as he never liked them and didn't understand them, he has no idea what he let loose. The Obama Bucks. This incident. Stuff like that, stupid, repulsive, embarrassing JUNIOR-high stuff. McCain should have remembered that this base is not what they turn to for strategy--this base is only when you need a mob to shout down your opposition. (Like the sheep in ANIMAL FARM, who would never have been trusted with anything but bleating "Four legs good, two legs bad" until dissent was drowned out. I refer you to 2000 Florida, Terri Schiavo, and any abortion protest)Let them out in any other way and they just pee on the rug and call it a courageous statement.

Why doesn't McCain just cut to the chase and call upon white supremacist groups for support? If he's decided to let the mob rule, he might as well have a real SA rather than a lameass one.

I shouldn't joke like that. A McCain staffer might take it as a suggestion for next week's strategy. I wouldn't be shocked.

The McCain Camp Already Made Lots of Comments

Their PA communications director, that is. Chock full of "facts" of the case that had not been released yet. Reporters couldn't help but notice it. Despite the odd disconnect between anything McCain says vs. anything Palin says, it appears that some people in the campaign are good at keeping a story straight between them. But only when it would make things worse. Had their stories differed here it might have helped.

You guessed it: it looks like this is NOT a "lone nut," but a sad little pawn in possibly the lamest political hoax in a century.

Oh, GOP, once you fall do you ever stop burning on your way down?

@djheru

Hey, idiot: Stevens is a Republican, and about as much of one as it gets.

So how does this prove anything about Democrats?

About Sports Fans Rioting

I'll give a little example of why Malkin is an idiot, as though one were needed. I'm sure she's also thinking of stuff like in Chicago, when the Bulls won the threepeat and people overturned cars and like that in celebration(and what then does she think of soccer riots in other countries?). The night it was won, I made the mistake of driving down Sheridan on the north side, past some sports bars. It was eerily quiet. They must have won right before I hit the red light, because exactly then an enormous crowd of drunken Bulls fans spilled onto the streets exultant, their stupid foam fingers a-brandished. They crowded around my car, and on top of it, and started trying to turn it over. When the light went green, I floored it. I think I heard I thump or two behind me, not sure.

Here's the punchline: the crowd was entirely WHITE. So Malkin is an idiot. QED.
