Joan writes: Obama defended his positions on striking al-Qaida inside Pakistan and sitting down with unpopular world leaders better than he ever has, even as McCain proclaimed such positions "dangerous." By insisting that meeting Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad legitimizes his hateful views of Israel, McCain essentially declared that sitting down with a foreign leader "legitimizes" any crazy thing they've ever said, which of course nobody believes
There was another partially missed opportunity for Obama. He stated that Ahmadinejad doesn't run Iran, but didn't follow up with the fact that cooler heads (albiet religious zealots in many cases) actually do run Iran and Ahmadinejad doesn't really have the power to do any more than shoot off his mouth. Moreover, he should have said "Of course it's possible for high-level U.S. diplomats (including the president) to meet with unpopular world leaders provided they have the temperament required. I believe I do..."
Amy's impersonation of Katie Couric may have been the better of the duo's performance. But that's not to take away from Tina's performance. The only thing that would have improved things is if Poehler had dipped her head forward a tad and looked very sad---oh, and worn a dark wig. Fey, on the other hand, has the impersonation down to a "T" and the use of Palin's own rambling words about the bailout was terrific.
I loved it!
There's a bumper sticker out already. Love it!

Just found this link to a Tina Fey for VP '08 in case folks are interested in showing their support for a great SNL performance:

I've been in your camp from the beginning! I hope Joe Biden doesn't pull punches and that Gwen Iffel doesn't toss her softball questions.
I don't feel sorry for this very, very ambitious woman whose ambitions far outweight her qualifications or her intelligence.
...I can definitely attest to the fact that Sarah Palin is giving a bad name to the upper midwest accent!
If "you betcha" wasn't bad enough, and the winking wasn't tacky, the repeated use of NUCULAR was offensive....made me cringe, and vow to slit my wrists if I have to listen to it for four more years!!!!!!!!!!!
Viveinne asked if the infant is a prop, and the answer is YES! Hasn't anyone noticed that as soon as she started to lose popularity, little Trig began having a larger presence before the media?
When Sarah's ratings were up, the only family member you saw was the "first dude" but when they started going down, little Trig started making appearances. Last week, for instance, he was in his daddy's arms behind the podium while mommy was making a speech. Tonight he was brought up to the stage by the daughter and, eventually, after giving him a little peck when she noticed he was there, Sarah briefly took the child and held him. Then (and I still can't believe this!!) she handed that baby off to the 9 year old, who proceeded to walk down the steps of the stage and then back up again.
Call me nasty and even tacky for pointing this out, but I like to think I'm observant and what I've observed is a mother who generally ignores that baby while gladhanding her political supporters. When it suits her, she holds him--but very briefly. When it doesn't suit her, the child is....well, wherever she stashes him when he isn't useful.
In other words, she's a fake and utterly taken with herself and will use even a tiny special needs child to further her amitions.
I want to apologize to all of you for the years I spent working to achieve equality for women in this country. At the same time, I want to apologize for all the years and the leadership positions I held in the League of Women Voters who instituted this concept of debates for those seeking the highest office in the land--and then threw it to the wolves in the BI-partisan Presidential Debate Commission to run!
What used to be a real debate concept has turned into a circus since the League stopped running them. There are bizarre formats these days, no tough time limits, no moderators who INSIST the participants stick to the question or be penalized by having time to speak taken away from--heck, there's no one developing good questions to ask the candidates!!
After watching the VP so-called debate last night, I confess to being so very, very ashamed to be one of the people who was complicit in helping to change society's attitudes and arcane laws so that this caricature of a feminist could think she's qualified to be in any high political position!
That something which should be a boon to our democratic electoral process has become a thing from which comedy acts are developed.
Sorry, folks. I've been playing computer games all evening to try to rid my mind of the last night but it hasn't worked. I had to let it out.
Please, somebody, tell this old woman that you forgive me.....
