WHAT IS SEA CHANGE?

It's difficult for this old woman to keep up on the newest phrases jargon invented/copied/used/misused/etc. After the debate, I went to the 'net to try to get a definition of "sea change" and kinda, sorta came away with something resembling "moving to the middle"....but I might be misinterpreting my understanding of what the various entities were talking about.

So, can anyone here tell me what they meant when they talked about Hillary Clinton being the sea-change candidate?

Thanks!

I appreciate the explanation RealityCounts. Should have posted that question here from the beginning. Spent an hour on line looking through various google matches for "sea change" and then, believe it or not, when I walked into Barnes & Noble today (for a different reason) there was a fictional book titled SEA CHANGE. Of course, it had nothing to do with politics or transformation. But it weird, nonetheless---the words seemed to be haunting me!

Just an added note about the debates. I'm newly transplanted from the midwest to the southwest, and haven't become attuned to the local radio stations here. So when I was out doing errands today, the O'Reilly Factor came on the radio. He starts out by saying "We're going to talk about last night's debate. It doesn't matter if you watched it or not, I'll accept comments..." Typical of right-wingers who don't want to be bothered by facts or reality!

Thsi is going to sound sexist, but....

....here we have a perfect example of "men are from Mars and women are from Venus" where the male pundits are trying to read their own ideas into what Hillary Clinton said about Obama's religious beliefs. It would be interesting to see if two women pundits see what Matthews and Finneman did in those perfectly direct comments from Clinton.

And when the heck are we going to get religion out of the debate? Let the republicans bore folks to death with their phony religious silliness. We're looking for people to run the country! Who cares about anyone's religion, or lack thereof.

While I'm at it, I also wonder when the male political reporters are going to stop using sports metaphors in their comments. After the last democrat debate, they used phrases involving FIVE different sports to describe what happened on stage. Frankly, I didn't see anyone involved in baseball, soccer, hockey, football and basketball on stage that night. Just three men and one woman---two of whom are vying for the Democrat nomination for president, a very serious issue and important job, not to be confused with winning a trophy in football...or baseball...or hockey...or soccer...or basketball.

People are so self-absorbed....

..that they don't even seem to realize there are others who are boarding the plane. Your suggestion about reserved storage bins is excellent. But, frankly, some of us don't need them because we do something odd: WE CHECK OUR LUGGAGE! And, frankly, I've only had luggage "lost" twice---once when we were forced to change planes and the luggage didn't follow (it was delivered to our home the next morning) and once during a holiday when it seemed like everyone was travelling. That one piece (the rest arrived when we did) was delivered later that evening to our hotel.

But back to the storage bins. Why in the world do people -- especially those who are in the first boarding group -- think they have to select bins at the front of the plane when most at the back are empty? And, yes, why don't they want to use the bins closer to their assigned seats?

The whole thing reminds me of what happens so often in checkout lines in the supermarket. A customer unloads the cart. The checker runs the items through the scanner. The bagger packs up the groceries. The checker then tells the customer what his/her total is and, it's not until then, the customer opens her purse (or takes out his wallet), fishes for a checkbook or debit card or cash, and then begins the process of paying for those groceries.....while a line forms behind them waiting to unload his/her groceries.

In other words, don't people realize they must pay for those groceries, and get out the checkbook or debit card, or wallet/money while waiting? Why do they seemed shocked when asked for payment? Did they think they were going to be given the groceries for free? It's the same with those who hold up the line trying to fit an oversized carry-on into the bin, then he/she takes off a coat, then fishes around in a second carry-on deciding what's needed/wanted during the flight, then -- maybe, just maybe -- takes their seat. All the while, a line has formed behind the person, who is oblivious to the inconvenience being caused, tempers rising, comments being made. Why not check the oversized bag? Why not follow the rules and bring the proper sized carry-on onto the plane? (Frequent flyers already know that oversized or ackwardly-sized bag isn't going to fit into the overhead bins without a struggle!!) Why not take off that coat before boarding? Or after the plane is boarded? Why not separate the items wanted during flight from the ones going in the bin? Why not simply get on the plane, find a seat, put the small carry-on under the seat in front, and exhibit some degree of courtesy toward the other boarding passengers?

You didn't mention how quickly those slow boarders gather their stuff and get off the plane! That is, AFTER they pull out their cell phones and check for messages---another interesting phenomenon in this technological age. I hope and pray airlines don't allow in-flight cell phone calling!!!
