Attn: Jonathan & Buffalonian

The best of lines, the worst of lines.

Buffalonian: i will be giggling for some time to come, "we have hockey in lieu of an economy and a future for our kids" obviously the funniest thing this thread has seen in a while

Jonathan: "i spent 2 years of college in michigan" - i'll pray for you.

O-H ..

Great Idea

That's a great idea for everyone. I speak for men when I say: it's cool - we're not going to oppose this one.

I suggest

sitting down and talking to a priest or a rabbi. They might not be as hip to our ever eroding modern morals as Cary Tennis is - but, they will have answers.

Pray for her to find strength.

Hail to the Chief

I smell a presidential reference. I'll pick up what you put down. Bud Selig is the same as a presidential candidate. They know what they think, but they have to keep it to themselves. They are forced to walk in lockstep with public opinion polls. Forced, by us mind you, to not rock the boat (remember Howard Dean?). I can’t blame Bud at all. You’ve painted two scenarios and, unfortunately, I would probably waffle just like Bud. You bet your ass he would be front and center if a natural product like Ken Griffey Jr. were breaking the record.

Oddly enough, the best take I’ve seen on this topic is Bill O’Reilly’s article in papers today. “There’s no question that Bonds used chemical enhancements to pump up his body and his batting statistics. Thus, there should be no celebration marking the occasion of Bonds passing Hank Aaron for hitting the most home runs in major-league history. The league should give Bonds the ball, let him take a bow – and that’s it.”

I think that’s a pretty good idea.

More O’Reilly, “the country really has to decide what the true national pastime really is: baseball or cheating.”

Sadly, we can’t decide for ourselves, so Bud’s planners can’t really feel the pulse of the fans.

Waffle away Bud, follow your heart, errr.. P.R. people.

I’ll tell you what will happen. Bud will be at Barry’s home games around record time, absent at away games. The booing should be catastrophic.

"America, f^ck yeah"

If you are alive in America, and plan on continuing that trend, here are some sports thoughts to come to grips with:

NFL is King. Once a week, on a day when people are off work, it provides an excuse for men to drink beer on a day when we shouldn't. It is violent. Gambling opportunities, cheerleaders, tribalism. Did I mention violence?

College Football and Basketball are seated at the right hand of God(ell). These sports let us feel slightly better about ourselves. See, these people play for free. Wait! No! They play for the opportunity to get an education. Okay, so that’s bunk. They are sweet effing sports, and it lets us remember our own college days and nights. Also, we feel a unique personal connection. I barely graduated from that school! Kill the opponent!

Baseball fits in right about here. It reminds us of when dad and mom used to be together. And when dad’s dad was alive. And when a car was a nickel. It’s quite reflexive.

NBA. American Gladiators without growth-plates, all set to the tune of 50cent. What’s not to like?

Then hockey. Yeah you got some violence, but so does Rocky 5.

It's like that....

multi-millionaire who got in trouble at ses off of Peru (like any 9-5 joe, he was trying to sail around the world by himself). I had difficulty greiving for his wealthy idle daughters. He survived, they survive off of him. Tragedy?

Also (and I hope this highlights my ignorance), doesn't 'Long Beach' sound like a tough place to pick up climbing.

Just goes to show you

how liberal America is. We march in the streets so homosexuals can marry each other and so illegal aliens can avoid deportation. They march because Richard Gere planted about 5 unwanted kisses on a revered star.

to anonymous

maybe you read me wrong. i'm in agreement with you. i HATE lefties who spend half the day patting themselves on the back, and the other half of the day wagging their fingers at God-fearing Americans who believe in right and wrong. it's catching up to us (our blind liberalism is why the twin towers fell -- if you disagree, read some Bin Laden, it's on the net)

Monday, May 21, 2007 02:15 PM

No (but nice try)

I'm equating our ever eroding moral standards to the motivations for anti-Americanism around the world. Have you ever read any Bin Laden? He's the guy that was behind blowing up our towers. Seems like a pertinent guy to read. It seems as if you haven't. I believe our 'anything goes' ethic has hurt America. We need to have 'right' and 'wrong'.

how did you decide that I reside in Queens?

huh?

I like LeBron. He's obviously a tremendous basketball player. He absolutely dismantled my high school team. He's a really good Ohio product. But, "he should have learned how to be a superstar by now" is a little selfish. Look, he just didn't have that Jordan swagger last night, but I don't expect anyone to have that. I'm sure LeBron is sorry he didn't rise to the level of the greatest American athlete ever.

I found his last second dish refreshing. As Steve Kerr said, "he did a good job getting rid of the ball for a wide open look at the shortest three-pointer on the court." (or something to that effect).

In a 'me first' era, LeBron's outlook should be lauded.

Don't worry, that whole 'superstar' thing is in there somewhere, if that's all you care about.
