2008 review

Great recap - big laughs reading the "south pacific" line.

I still think you have Spygate all wrong, King. What the Patriots did is inexcusable and they should be stripped of their Championships. What they did is the pinnacle of cheating in football and it doesn't deserve to be rewarded. I guess Goodell did a good job sweeping it under the rug if a mind as sharp as yours doesn't have a problem with it. Do you think Charlie "I ate my way through my gastric bypass" Weis could have pulled off those wins without cheating? The answer is no. (please go read Slate's article about Weis, it is the best piece of sportswriting in history). Trying to stop a NFL offense is difficult enough. When the team already knows what scheme you're running, you're done. I am mystified that people don't understand this.

On to the Chinese gymnasts. Have you ever looked at an older Chinese person? They age at roughly half the rate a caucasian goes. Really. When you showed up at Cal, King, I bet some of your Asian classmates looked under 16 years old. But they weren't. It's easy to believe that the Chinese government would doctor the birth certificates, but it's also easy to believe that those girls were just late bloomers. If they ever 'bloom' at all. Since when are Americans the final arbiters of bodies? Look at what we've done with ours! (insert hyperlink about childhood obesity and a hyperlink to the 'whopper virgins' website - which someone should be shot for)

Roger Clemens is finally getting his due. What an asshole. First Team all asshole. World Class asshole.

The Yankees aren't the only team in New York getting half a billion in tax dollars to subsidize their Louis the XIVish situation. The New York Mets have a 20 year $400,000,000 deal with Citibank/Citigroup/Citiwhateverhell you want to call them. If no one recalls, Citi has accepted over 300b of our tax dollars, err, bailouts or infusions or whatever soft-talk we want to employ. Nevertheless, the Mets will see every penny even though Citi would have gone into bankruptcy without our cash (ask the Astros about Enron). Now we are helping to pay Carlos Beltran and for Citi to advertise Citi to us. You and me and anyone else who pays taxes. Someone needs to explain to me why it is my responsibility for the Mets to get their cash. It makes no sense, and it has led me away from following the bigs. Sorry guys, you've lost this fan. I know how to get to the Brooklyn Cyclones stadium thank you very much (yeah yeah, I understand they're in the Mets organization). Again, I'm mystified that people don't understand that the government bailed out the Mets. (I suspect that this exact transfer of almost half a billion fedbucks is why Paulson and the other cronies didn't demand that the banks to reveal what they're doing with the funds - think about it)

Lemme take off my negativity hat. Chalmers' shot was amazing. So was Tyree's catch. Both gave you those rare moments where you jump out of your seat even though you don't give a lick about the teams. Tiger's putt was cool. That man deserves everything he receives. He is the Michael Jordan of today. He is the 2014 Terrell Pryor of today.

And, thanks King, for your 2008 dailies.

The Palins

I always thought Twig was their cutest kid.

Original article: Did I just buy an SUV?

Children and their friends

Remember what it was like when we were growing up? People would cram children in the back. Tommy and Billy and Jane and Bobby and Jeff and Stacey all fit in the back seat at the same time.

Now, Sage and Hunter and Apple and Riley and Eli and Scout require 2 autos.

Which leads me to an 'ask pablo' moment. How many tons of noxious emmisions are in our atmosphere because of the law requiring a seat belt for every passenger? How many tons of carbon emmissions equal the life of one child?

prediction which will warrant praise in the future

There will be a social uprising in the United States in the next 4 years. Scary stuff. Rich people hiding. Remember those guns we were talking about the other week? Yeah... those.

Will HTWWs be around to report it?

Ohio State

That was the second most amazing football game ever played.

Texas running their, we aren't strong enough to run the football, shotgun 6 wide formation every play hoping for a late hit.

The Buckeyes with their periodically great tailback Beanie Wells and the amazing defense.

That's great football. Although, part of it doesn't sit right with me. Does anyone remember playing neighborhood games as a kid. If the other team wasn't ready for a play, it didn't count. Texas, in their inferiority, was forced to run a hurry up so hurried up that it wasn't football. It was like the weak kid who wouldn't check the ball during a basketball game. But that's okay.

Congrats Texas. That was an amazing game.

The Utes? Really? Some idiot brought that up at the bar last night. I felt I had a good response. I just turned the other direction.

hey saloncomment

King is a UCal graduate. I refuse to believe that Cornell is a better school than Cal. Ivy league means nothing. Take if from me, I have a BA from one of those schools.

Maybe you were tongue in cheek - but I can't tell, I'm too hungover to think that critically.

You'd get a lot of people mad, especially in the south

Lincoln got southerners mad too.

Did anyone notice the artistic violence which was last night's game? It was better than anything I've read from Shakespeare. He can have his iambic pentameter, just give me a fourth and five. Or would we rather bitch and moan about college football. Life is too short, people. Watch and enjoy. Or go play it. Or shut up.
