Original article: Quote of the day

@ F Chet

Get the fucking state out of the marriage business. Your tax return shouldn't ask whether you are married or not. None of the state's business whether you are in a sacred union or not.

Now I really disagree with that. It is a state's business to be concerned about the 'health' of the state. Strong families make for strong communities which make for a strong society - which I imagine to be a goal of a state.

I believe that a married man and women offer the most optimal emotional environment to raise children. A state should be albe to ask whether someone is married or not. It's a check of our cultural 'heartbeat'. I think our pulse is slowing down.

Explain something to me

So, John Edwards isn't coming to the Convention because he had an affair and lied about it.

How is that any different than the Keynote speaker? Bill Clinton had an affair, in the Oval Office, then lied to federal prosecuters about it. But he's delivering the Keynote Address.

Someone explain this to me.

Jealous women

You're pissed about what Perez Hilton says. I would say that 999 out of 1000 people that visit that site are women.

Newsflash - this is all just women hating women.

Good critique.

Is Universal HD showing the same stuff as CNBC? Either way, I'm mighty tired of Olympic Boxing. The event stinks and so does the non-stop coverage.

To quote Warren G - "I want it all." And I'm not getting it. I know it's all on the net but I don't own a computer. So I get regular NBC and boxing. So much boxing

How many years until MMA is in the olympics?

One more thing. Our baseball team needs some stones.

Remember the kicker

I have no problem with good squib kicks. The problem is that most kickers turn down the effort when squibbing.

A great squib can dance and scoot all the way to the endzone. Even a good one should keep teams around the 35.

Essentially - King, you're blaming the coach. I'm blaming the kicker and the coach. Wrong time. Poor kick.

Original article: New Orleans dodges disaster

Common sense

tells me that we should abandon New Orleans. I want to have a line on everyone's paycheck which says how much of our Federal taxes are going to subsidize a city BELOW SEA-LEVEL.

How many times should you rebuild a tower on a faultline?

How many times should you rebuild a house in a floodplain?

How many times should you rebuild a house on the side of a volcano?

How many times should you let other people rebuild those structures when you are subsidizing it?

I don't mind hurting some feelings as long as we act rationally. Rebuilding New Orleans is not rational.

Good work Andrew

The question I come away with after reading Shawn Tully's Fortune article is not: How was Dimon able to be so smart? It's how come everybody else was so amazingly dumb?

They were so amazingly dumb because of herd mentality and greed. Simple as that.

Then you must consider that these banks live quarter to quarter. They must have felt pressure from shareholders to keep pace with the other guys. So, maybe your common investor's greediness played a small role too. And the morons who bought homes they couldn't afford. And the people that sold it to them. Ad infinitum.

Either way - Jamie Dimon is a hell of a leader.

Original article: Sarah Palin's stiletto

One line last night probably earned about 7 million votes

Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.

Simple minded? Yes. But it is rational - and it really hurts the democrats.

Here we go again. He's writing an NFL playoff preview. For the hard hitting stuff see Glen Greenwald.

I think the Pats are going to take it all.

Speaking of the NFL. Did anyone hear about the new rule that allows one defensive player gets to wear a speaker in his helmet? I'm proud of suggesting this in the wake of spygate.

simple solution to the spying problem:

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Have one captain on defense wear a helmet with the green dot. Let the defensive coordinator call in the defensive scheme. No hand signals necessary. If it's good for the offense, why not for the defense?

Think about it.

But, again, like most solutions, this is probably too simple and obvious for the NFL to come up with.

The way to fight back

If the Republicans are making 'personality' the main issue, I have an easy solution.

Send Biden out there railing non-stop about how Palin wanted to ban books from a public library. Say it over and over and over again. Use it like a W. Bush talking point. Just don't stop talking about it. Sure, talk about why a book banner is bad - but quickly return to the fact that she wanted to ban books from a public library.

See, she tried to ban books from a public library. Is that who you trust leading this country. If it starts with banning books, where does it end? Will she ban schools from teaching evolution? Ban all the science books currently in circulation?

You see, my friends, this woman tried to ban books. And we.............................
