Throw Bud under the bus

The players deserve some blame. Look, steroids are illegal. Shame on them.

The management deserves some blame. They turned a blind eye to guys juicing in the clubhouse. I'll trust Jose Canseco when he says he injected Big Mac with roids in the clubhouse bathroom. And management was wildy enriched as a direct result of steroid use. Shame on them.

Bud Selig and Donald Fehr deserve the most blame. You should be able to figure out why.

So a lot of guys, from Gibbons to Bonds, used illegal performance enhancing drugs. Dropping names will only serve to slander ballplayers who aren't convictable in any court (save Bonds). And, I'm not crazy about how they got those names. McCarthyism. (took that reference from yesterday's NYT article about this. Go read it, it's great)

This whole thing is slimy and sleazy. Luckily it's over. Or at least there are punishments in place.

With each passing day Ken Griffey Jr's accomplishments shine brighter. He was the best baseball player throughout most of the steroids era - and he wasn't on steroids. His level of play throughout the 90s is crazy.

what happened...

to people going to the bar after work, enjoying a cocktail, and having sex with strangers? Why did I have to come of age today?

Great Post Andrew

10 year old minivan, huh? Sounds sexy. j/k, kinda.

I'm imperfect too. I tote my groceries around in earth-killing plastic bags, but I don't let them 'double-bag'. I use too much water washing the dishes. I take showers which are probably longer than necessary.

I consume a lot of beer. Someone has to ship those bottles around, right?

I bought an air conditioner for my apartment this past summer. I was kind of tired of my bedroom feeling like Vietnam.

__

There was a debate in a recent letter thread about something similar. People were yelling at others for having children BECAUSE they were going to consume energy and hurt the earth. Well, if you care that much, why not commit suicide? Why not start smoking so you can die 20 years earlier? Wouldn't that be better for the environment?

Look, humans are going to go extinct in X number of years. It will be long after all of us die. Long after. The sun is going to burn-out too. We can't expect individuals on this planet, living under capitalism, to make the most green-conscious choices. Live and let live - just don't be obscene.

you're right, it's slow

boring even.

I don't think I can take many more articles about credit. (fyi - we're all screwed)

Fox News reported that Bonds pleaded guilty. Well done Fox, well done.

Jose Guillen suspended for violating the drug policy. He's one of my favorite players, but that's a rough way to start out with a new ballclub - especially for a guy who is disliked by most of the universe.

And those new light blue jerseys are disgusting.

Slow news week?

The front page of every major news website is trumpeting a sports story. Right now.

it tastes even better with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Hey Jonathan

Go f___ yourself.

Barry Bonds is good.

Every team should cheat and spy.

You sound almost angry enough for me to be interested in dating you.

You'll find him.

Good luck.

@ afterthat

I would (ultimately) urge my daughter (now 8) and my son (now 11) to marry early, have children early (hopefully, right out of college), and be done with active child rearing by their early 40s.

Pie in the sky. Do you understand how rapidly college tuition has risen when compared to inflation? You want your kids to deal with crazy loan payments, and bring in a newborn without a real job yet? Good luck. I hope they have a trust fund. Only the wealthiest and the unwealthiest of my friends are getting married and having children. I am 24. Mine swim like Michael Phelps with a shark chasing him.

Biological clock. The only phenomenon in the natural world which can prove to a feminist that she doesn't always have all the answers. Decades don't "sneak," people.

Farve = epitome of our culture

Wife with cancer. Wranglers. Real. Comfortable. Jeans. Likes football. 2 kids. History of substance abuse. Success story (seventh string as a freshman). Pick-up truck driver. Swagger. Admittedly not the smartest guy around. Stands up for himself. Doesn't avoid confrontation.

Brett is great...

but my vote goes to Jeremy N. Foley, AD at the University of Florida.

A close second-place finish: Brandon Phillips. 30/30 talks.

how much 'character' does it take to get benched for a true freshman when you're a senior and a returning starter?

you can ask Tom Brady.

BCS is rigged against minor conference schools.

Sorry to break it to you, but college football is rigged against minor conference schools. Blame the players. The best ones want to go to big programs. It's all their fault.

@ christmartin17

so not true. Michigan's schedule? The bucks haven't played Notre Dame in the regular season since beating them in 95 and 96. But, look at our other non-conference games:

2005: Texas

2006: at Texas

2008: at USC

2009: USC

2010: Miami

2011: at Miami

2007 was the one year break. You just know Tressel asked a bunch of great teams to play and they said, "uhh, we would rather not get physically and emotionally abused in Columbus. Our physical trainers won't be ready that early in the season for such carnage."

How about this for a solution: every year, to determine the National Champion, whoever wins a season-long 12 game playoff earns the priviledge to face the Buckeyes for the Sears Trophy.

That game will have it all. It will have your playoff system, and it will ensure that the best 2 teams in college football will play each other every year for the title.

I cannot think of anything more obvious than that.
