Wes:

I've been alive for 1 democratic president. I can say, with 100% certainty, that Hillary will be the least intelligent Democratic President of my lifetime.

re: mundstuk

are you willing to find out what that number is?

or would you rather not take the chance and lock up the oval office with Biden/Dodd/Obama/Edwards?

strayrod

Boras and A-Rod made the decision at 4pm on the last day of the world series. Blame the guys at Fox (they're in charge of what goes on the air). They could have made the announcement at the beginning of the game, or after the game - but they waited until the 8th inning. I don't blame A-Rod for that.

His departure from the Yankees makes me happy. Don't remember who said it, but one of the NYPost writers penned, "good bye, and good riddance." That typifies how stupid the fans and media are in New York.

I went to a handful of Yankees games during the past couple years. I heard the fans boo him, loudly. How effing stupid are you people? He's the best player in the game, and you boo him?!? Go look at his numbers or simply watch closely. It's like going to a five-star restaurant and booing at the head chef. It's like going to a Philip Roth book signing and booing at him. It's like going to Scores East and booing. Please shut the hell up, or don't go to the game. You're in someone's seat who would have cared.

Then I hear people say things like, "well, he can't handle the spotlight in the big city." That's almost like holding a candle to someone's arm and saying, "gee, what a wuss, he just can't take the heat."

A-Rod should go to the Cubs. Viva NL Central.

Joan:

Can you imagine any scenario in which you would support torture?

What if we could have tortured one individual and uncovered the 9/11 plot?

Do you believe it is ethically permissible to torture one person to save the lives of over 3000?

I'm interested in what you think about these questions.

thoughts?

I'm sure we can all agree that Roger Clemens hung on a little too long. He looked like trash this year. I hope it was embarassing.

I believe Schilling is starting to get to that point, AND he's in pretty poor shape. Maybe he has some crazy workout routine I don't know about, but he looks washed up. He's not the Curt Schilling of 01. His ego will demand that he pitches 5 more years. Is anyone excited to watch him slowly fade away into a highly hittable pitcher?

38pitches.com (July 18, 2009)

I went two and a third today. My arm feels like a dead appendage. You know how it feels when you wake up in the middle of the night and you've been sleeping on it - all pins and needles and you can't control it? Well, that's what life is like full-time for ol' Schilly. My fastball hit 90 today. So that's good. But my splitter, well, let's not talk about my splitter. I'm starting to wonder if I'm giving up 2-0 bombs because my pitches aren't good enough, or because these hitters are just getting lucky. These guys are getting lucky. I'm the Schill-dog. I study film.

Anyone see what Hillary did today? Signing that universal healthcare bill. Sheesh. What a fool.

That's all for now. I need to go pick up some new insoles and some centrum silver. Hey, who's that smart guy in the mirror?

Thank you Joan

I agree with you. In a perfect world there should never be torture. In a perfect world there should never be hate. In a perfect world there should never be violence.

But, bottom line is: we don't live in a perfect world.

Thinking otherwise is foolish and can jeopardize our safety.

king

Schilling hate, I guess because I don't like pitchers in general. Bush, eh, I was just trying to have fun. A better post would have been: I don't really care for Curt Schilling. That's not fun though.

give me some 18th century stuff anyday

From 1900 to 2000, Ross writes, classical music "experienced what can only be described as a fall from a great height".

I cannot agree more. Hearing New York Philharmonic's rendition of Dutilleux's Métaboles last night - I would have rather been listening to Britney Spears.

Barry Bonds

This story is more important than a game on Sunday.

Barry Bonds, career home run king, will boycott the Hall of Fame if they display his asterik ball. Didn't think I was going to smile like that until happy hour.

Sorry ending to a sorry saga. It's gotta be tough going from the greatest and most feared power hitter ever, to being laughed at, ridiculed, caricatured and ultimately disregarded.

Karmic justice.
