Self-Defeating Feminism

I always enjoy learning more about third-wave feminism. I'm a 24 year old guy, and this stuff is almost 'research' for me. I find myself nodding a lot, but also drawing my own conclusions.

I don't think Ms. Valenti gets to the root of the problem. She says, "the fear is if they trust us with our own bodies we're going to go be whores."

That concern is true now let’s try to understand why it is true. Going through high school and college I witnessed and experienced a lot of 'women being trusted with their bodies.’ I would imagine that all 16-24 year old men would agree that we haven’t been too disappointed with this ‘empowering’ phenomenon.

Here is the problem. With so many girls being so ‘available,’ guys have been increasingly reluctant about committing to a single girl, or what used to be known as a ‘girlfriend.’ Why would be put up with the phone calls, the nagging, the gift giving, the being bitched at, and everything else under the sun, if we can get unattached loving every weekend anyway? And, if you’re a girl, and you’re hooking up with random guys every weekend, (i.e. not a boyfriend), I’m sorry, but you have entered the whore-zone.

Thus, ‘trusting them with their own bodies’ is self-defeating. It gives guys a reason to not commit. Don’t we all want that committed deep relationship? I thought so, then I got to Ms. Valenti’s thoughts about marriage (i.e. “the biggest crock”). Reading that makes me worry for fourth-wave feminism

I used to actively pursue girlfriends. Going out on dates, doing that sort of thing. Now, I realize, it’s kind of a waste of time. In other words, why walk 30 miles to cross the river where it is narrow, when I got this powerboat right here?

Oh yeah, flash your boobies all over if you want. Good luck with that.

Response

No, men who sleep around are whores too. They're called man-whores. The difference is in the stigma.

I read that article...

on the exercise bike this afternoon. I wondered if Broadsheet would write about it. I thought it would be a good moment for Broadsheet to stand up for what is clearly right: trying to help the unhealthier half of humans, men. But, as I suspected, we get this post. I wonder if any feminists anywhere are concerned about the health of a male family member.

Plus,

considering the wage gap and the costs of private health care, maybe we do deserve more money for the same work.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Political Correctness is a huge snowball picking up speed coming down the mountain. Get the fuck out of the way or your life is over.

Is that really liberals' goal?

Wow, I wanted to like you

Then I get this: "But let's not pretend that hip-hop has somehow confused white people regarding the use of the word. I think that's a very disingenuous argument."

Let me tell you how wrong you are, Mr. Jabari Asim.

I'm a white male, 24 years old, grew up in Cincinnati. When I was a kid, I KNEW the n-word was wrong. I would visit my grandparents, my grandpa would say it, and my nuclear family would shudder and think: "wow, he must have grown up in a crazy time, we just DON'T use that word today. No one does, it's wrong, waaay wrong."

This was the early 90s. Then, I grew up a little. Tupac and Biggie and Luda and Tha Big Tymers and came around, and yes, we were bumping that in suburban Cincy (by the way, NWA is a horribly dated reference, Mr. Jabari Asim). Everything was nigga this and nigga that. THAT CONFUSED ME. I WAS CONFUSED BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS A THING OF THE PAST. Nope. Here it is. Every other line, of ever single song (i can remember a song when it was used as the capper of every sentence). Can you see why that may be confusing? Now the word was back. It still is back. It's up to blacks to sweep it back under the rug. Your broom is how much you care, and how much responsibility you're willing to take for the word's rampant usage.

Nothing says "a job well done," like an inheritance or a divorce. I'm glad for all of their 'success.'

Whoo there

Quit giving this guy the ol' Al Sharpton treatment King. If I had to announce 486 hours of baseball a year, I might say some things that weren't accurate. Baseball lore and arguments are fun. How about this argument: this new controversy is probably good for the game.

I don't want Niles Krane as an announcer. Give me a guy who is crafty and entertaining. A guy who'll make you laugh and offer some insight. A guy who may have a tall cold one in the sixth. They're baseball announcers, not golf, cut them some slack.

Have you heard of Josh Hamilton? No! Really?!? Kind of a cooler story than this.

Re: Eduardo

Eric Davis was immediately pulled from that game. It was game 4 of the 1990 World Series, the finale of the sweep over the vaunted A's. The real hero in that game was Billy Hatcher. He was hitting hotter than hell that series, so the A's intentionally threw at him during his first AB. His hand broke and he left the stadium for a cast. BH Was back in time to celebrate the Reds 5th World Series Championship.

That may or may not be 100% true King. Please don't call the English Department and try to get me expelled.
