He was the Dems only hope

In a realistic light, when the uber-conservative religious right voted Bush into office for 2 terms I just cannot see Clinton or Obama winning a national election. And again, the chances for a democrat President will be dashed with good intentions.

Edwards was the right choice on so many levels and he would have made Super Tuesday a real race. He should have stayed in for one more week - just to give me someone to vote for!

It is interesting that many news organizations think that Edwards supporters will automatically turn to Obama. As an Edwards supporter, I can tell you I have no preference to either candidate. I will vote party lines come November, but in the end the party just shot itself in the foot.

Not news to me

I have been using my regualr birth control pills continuously for 3 months at a clip (like seasonale) for almost 9 years. No gyno has ever had an issue with me whittling down to 4 periods a year bc they all know - that a period for someone on brith control is a not a real period. There have been articles for years of women gynocologists using the Pill 365 days a year and not having a period for years on end. For me, now that Lybrel is here I can easily ask my doctor to increase the # of packs of my lo ovral and follow suit.

I never had debiliating cramps or PMS. But I have always dreaded my period and see no need for it, especially when I am on hormone birth control. I don't need the mood swings and the Pill has done not reduced my libido.

To me, if you are on birth control opting to "rest your body" one week a month and go off the hormones is so unnecessary. If the pill is already your contraceptive of choice I think this is just an added bonus. The side effects are no more than whatever effects you already have from taking the pill.

Why?

Why do you feel so entitled, at 22 (!), to a dream job? Because of a post-graduate degree? You have to work from the bottom up. Passing up an ok job because of the possibility of a dream job before the interview? Don't you have anyone around you that has ever worked in corporate America before? Or read a wall street journal in the last 2 months?

I have seen so many people with post-graduate degrees come out of school thinking the world will be laid before them and 6 figure salaries will fall from the sky because of their specialized education. I have also seen them face the harsh reality that education =/= guarenteed job opportunities.

Find a job that is in your field and get to work. You have plenty of time to get to your dream job, by working for it.

Girl or guy?

2 random thoughts:

I started reading this letter thinking it was a guy until I got to the shopping and then the ingrained my gender roles in my head got me thinking that maybe LW was a female.

I don't know many women who are huge MJ smokers, though I lived with a full closer-to-full-time female users. I guess I just associate pot heads with "male".

On the job thing - a good friend of mine was hired at a reknown pub co in NYC. As he started to ask about the drug test the editor in charge laughed and said "Honey, this is publishing we all have our little demons and we don't test for them here!"

Fear of flying still exists

My husband will fly but will not sleep for days beforehand. He also needs to be medicated and will not move or speak the duration of any flight (including a 14 hour flight to HI)

He knows more about planes than any other layperson I have ever met. He can look at a plane and tell you how much fuel they carry and how long they can fly. He is irrationally frightened and it is the reason we limit air-travel vacations to twice a year if that.

To get all the PUMAS

If McCain indeed wants to get the Pumas Salon keeps going on about, he should pick Christie Todd Whitman. She is moderate on social issues and appeals to the non-right wing section of the republican party. The disenfrancised women of the democratic party will have a reason to vote for that ticket and he will appeal to more people. Her book was also very anti-Bush.

My alternative seems to be rare

I am a trailing spouse, having moved 3 (soon to be 4) in the past 3 years. After the 2nd move and unemployed for 4 months I finally got a job in my field for a company that was progressive enough to let me work from home. I have done so while moving to 3 different states and never having to go to the main office more than once or twice a year. My salary has remained constant and the stress of finding a job in a small, specialized field is gone.

I would hope that others will eventually be able to find such progressive employers since this is such a great solution to that problem.
