Cary's advice is idiotic and obtuse

What a TL;DR bit of bloviation, and all in service of a single, stupid point: You should disregard everyone else and do whatever you want.

You are married, LW. You have obligations. If you were a man, Cary would remind you of this. Your spouse is indeed a part of the decisions you make.

That doesn't mean you have to return to being exactly what you were. There will be changes. However, if you want to stay married, your spouse deserves to be included in the process.

Your family will also need to be consulted, albeit to a lesser degree. They get input, but not a vote. Still, if you want to maintain a connection with them, you need to make them a part of the process.

Howdy, Tracist!

It's Rebecca Traister, once again polishing her racist and sexist chops. Let's not forget her lovely racist habit of addressing Obama's supporters as "Obama boys":

Salon should either make her publish an apology or fire her.

This issue isn't going away.

Original article: Hail and farewell

What did I tell you?

Hillary can be made to supply a forced endorsement for a much smaller price than the Vice-Presidency. She has alienated the Democratic Party machine with her antics; if she wants to keep that machine working for her in future, she'll have to do whatever they say, and do it with a smile. Her days of self-centered destructive antics are over.

The Hillary supports whined and carped about this assessment...and you were all wrong.

I. Told. You. So.

Yeah, but will that stop the mudslingers?

Obama's rhetoric is nice, as usual, but he delivers it in the certain knowledge that left-wing muckrakers like Joe Conason and the Kos kids will continue to bash Palin's daughter.

Salonistas like to pretend that Republicans invented dirty politics, but that is a lame lie. They didn't start it, kids.

@ABel3K

I don't believe that's true. Then again, a lot of what the left likes to call "smears" are just exposing the beliefs and voluntary associations of the left's candidates. It's true that telling the truth is oily and cynical, but it's also the truth.

However, do feel free to demonstrate the the Republicans somehow started all this. You'll have to lie in order to do it, but that should be no barrier for you.

I am firm, you are obstinate, she is a pig-headed fool

So when Biden goes on the offensive, it's fine. When Palin does the same, it's wrong.

When Biden's kids commit offenses as adults, it's never mentioned. When Palin's daughter gets pregnant and intends to marry the father, it's a scandal. (Presumably it would have been unworthy of publication if John Edwards had been the father...)

It's all about whose ox it getting gored, isn't it, Joan?

Gee, why would she be mad?

Could it be that the liberal blogosphere and the mainstream media have implied that her baby's Down's syndrome was somehow her fault? That they spread the rumor that this child was not hers, but her daughter's, and that her husband was the father?

If you said that about my child, you had better find God before I find you, you mudslinging bastards.

Yeah, she's sick of you. So are a lot of other people. You are disgusting human garbage.

"Community organizer"? Try "ward heeler"

That's what Obama actually was, and it's not a responsible position. It's not on the level of being a mayor or a governor.

I'd rather trust a mayor and governor than a bagman.

BFD. George Plunkitt could have claimed as much, with plenty of picnics and parties to boot.

A ward heeler is a ward heeler.

@jack and jill

You're a sexist pig, but only under the current circumstances will anyone on Salon call you out on it. Normally they'll engage in amazing noetic acrobatics to avoid noticing any pro-female or anti-male sexism, but in this one case they will call you out, and they will be right.

Getting a woman in a position of power is not interesting to non-sexists. Getting the right person into power, regardless of sex, is.

Nice try, but you had better point out the racist remark I made. I didn't say a thing about race. I said Obama was a ward heeler, and he was.

This isn't the mainstream media; you can't just lie about people saying something racist and make it stick. Put up or shut up.

It's odd that Obama got a law degree and took on a job better suited to a legbreaker, but perhaps his will to power exceeded his desire for ready cash. He wouldn't be the first. It worked out well enough for him in the end, didn't it? Or is your house bigger than his? Somehow, I doubt it.

I notice you're unable to address the substance of my remarks, so you're contenting yourself with lies about racism and pathetic credentialism. With friends like you, Obama needs no enemies.

@Abagadro

You're living on a planet of people who aren't bound and determined to see nothing good in a Republican and nothing bad in a Democrat.

It's hard to tell, since you're reading this on Salon, but that's where you are.

@Kacie1951

Word.

Palin is a weak candidate, and the way to expose her weakness is to get her talking about the issues. Small-town straight talk sounds good in the occasional sound bite, but if you ask her anything about complex policy issues, you're going to see her weaknesses.

If Democrats engage her in arguments about her daughter, or her pro-life stance, or smear her family, they will lose. That's the culture war, and it's the battleground of choice for the Republicans. Fight them there, and it's a sure loss.

Why do you think Palin's family was on stage with her, including her daughter's fiance?

Don't fight their fight.
