The robber barons of the late 19th century is what occurs without regulation ...... when the govt fails to live up to its primary duty to protect all the citizens of a country.

The result is monopolies and oligopolies, union busting and low wages. For what did all those men who died in WWII die for ???

The republicans in general have always argued against the use of public taxpayer's money being used to actually aid those who provided the money unless they could somehow profit handsomely also.

An example is healthcare ......... the power and wealth of the insurance and drug companies has made the US the only industrialized country in the world without universal single-payer govt administered insurance.

"Let the market decide" is the chant of the republicans and corporatists who control the country. Private enterprise will solve all the problems and the govt should not be involved in any way.

So has been the chant as the involved parties have raked-in hundreds of billions in profits.

But when they start to lose money?

Please public (who we have screwed for the last 20 years), bail us out.

It is then a different story and the rich will bail out the rich with funds from the common man while the common shareholder is screwed.

Wouldn't you just love to play the game of the corporatists?

You never lose.

Either "let the market decide" is your belief or not. You cannot have it both ways.

Let them all crash and burn.

The govt and the public should be saying "let the market decide".

This mantra should be reverberating all over the country.

Nothing will change until the mess is allowed to crash and the bad debt weeded out.

Only then, like the phoenix rising from the ashes, can a new structure be built.

PS: Obama is a moderate and does not have either the beliefs or courage necessary to make the changes necessary. The Bush regime and the neocons have been so far to the right and extreme (fascist) that, relatively speaking, Obama appears to be a liberal to many people. Twenty-five years ago, Obama would have been considered a moderate republican.

The executive branch should have no power to appoint members of the judiciary branch or the regulatory agencies.

This obviously distorts the balance of powers.

Bush staffed the regulatory agencies with his lackeys and castrated them by lack of funding.

Thus, the american people have gone unprotected from obvious threats to their safety.

Attorney generals, Supreme Court judges, etc., could be appointed by many other means but should be insulated from the political process as much as possible.

They could be chosen by their peers (American Bar Assoc.) thru a committee with representatives of the public also present.

As far as the cowardice ....... there are two factors ...... self-interests and fear.

They will lick the balls of their corporate sponsors.

Even worse, they apparently fear their own govt (of which they are a part) more than they do the voting public (I wonder why?).

They know they can be the target of dirty tricks, setups, etc as much as anyone else.

Perhaps if a small mob of citizens stormed the Congress and hanged a few of them on the Capital steps, their "respect" for the public would increase.

But how would they do that if they're watching "Dancing With the Stars"?

When all I have to do is sit on my ass all day ...... I have slaves (aides) to serve me and do all my work ..... I get free food, free gym memberships, great retirement pension plan, great health insurance and get to walk around all day dressed in a suit and looking important ..... Easiest job in the world ...... just have to cast a vote every now and then and on election years pay a visit to my homestate to press the flesh with the rabble ....

Nothing is changing is far as unethical behavior is concerned.

The 1918 influenza virus killed 50% of its victims. It was a mutation of a bird flu.

Victims died within two days ...... thus the cause of death was not secondary pneumonia or organ failure but a massive immune response of the body that led to literally drowning in ones own lung fluids.

Casualties were suffered in a military base in Alaska.

The bodies were buried in the frozen tundra.

A few years ago, a govt expedition was sent to Alaska ....... bodies were exhumed and the virus (due to frozen state) retrieved.

The military has since reproduced the virus in its biological weapons labs.

If you think this was all done so we could study the virus because it might help in future bird flu mutations, you are naive.

When the population becomes a threat to the super rich, the population will be decimated with the virus.

You could literally wipe-out half the human race in a week by spreading the virus in a controlled manner.

Anybody who knows anything about history knows the Catholic Church is as corrupt an institution as the world has ever seen.

They had europe in their corrupt grasp for centuries ...... no doubt the founding fathers had them in mind when outlining the principle of separation of church and state.

There, you go ...... the people get the govt they deserve.

Ignorant of history, they will repeat its mistakes.

Too lazy to read a book, they think life is about being entertained .......... they have just enough energy to turn on a computer or stick an ipod earpiece in that hole in the side of their head.
