Corporations long ago passed the point where the costs of goods was directly related to the costs of producing those goods ..... the mergers that created oligopolies while the impotent FTC stood by gave us the twin evils of market control and control of the politicians who are supposed to represent the people.

I am personally familiar with the pharmaceutical companies lying, theiving, corrupting ways.

Are you surprised that there are corrupt mortgage brokers everywhere, corrupt lawyers, corrupt bankers, corrupt "bundlers", corrupt congressmen, corrupt auto mechanics, etc. etc.?

So it is in a culture where materialism is king and mammon is god.

When this country collapses, it won't be because a bunch of snake oil salesmen dressed in $5000.00 suits ran off with the money, it will be because the american people have become so devoid of principles and values themselves, that they can no longer even muster outrage when corruption is paraded before their eyes each and every day.

Of an economy that runs and grows on credit ....... most people live beyond their means ...... its the american way ...... why wouldn't big corporations do the same thing ???

I understand the Chinese people are loath to go into debt for anything.

Easy credit cards ...... easy credit ........ the rubber band with leverage go stretched too far.

Or pussy (as the case may be) ....... it requires no extra resources .... most "technophiles" are just lovers of toys ....

Most disappointing of all is the Congress.

How did a country which originated with firebrands willing to risk hanging to take on a colonial empire like Britain degenerate to a Congress composed of wimps who think bureaucratic structures and organization and pushing papers around is the same as representing the people?

I can't imagine a more spoiled entitled intellectually bankrupt group of individuals ......... a herd of sheep.

Paulson is requesting unilateral authority to act, without judicial

oversight. Congress wants to add protections for homeowners and

taxpayers, independent oversight, etc. but Paulson and others are

urging them to do it "clean and quick", that is, little or no

amendments by Congress, and without delay. They are going to push

this through like they did the Patriot Act, in a matter of days, and

they want to strip the courts of any jurisdiction. There is a lot

of talk about "mother of all bailouts", "not since the Great

Depression", "potential depression", Congress saying the assessment

of the situation was "sobering"...either they are fearmongering, or

this got really, really bad, more than we may ever know (or we may

find out shortly, whichever). But when they want to push through

"emergency legislation" like this and strip the courts of

jurisdiction, this means they are hiding something, a scam ...
