Geitner .....

Obviously getting advice from his Goldman-Sachs buddy Paulson.

The whole govt is a sham ........ a revolving door between govt and the financial sectors and govt and corporate business in general.

Former govt officials can still go to work as lobbyists for industries they once "regulated".

This "class" of individuals run together ....... they know each other, they play golf with each other and smuggly laugh at the rabble who question them.

Why can't you folks just admit you're living in a plutocracy and your govt is totally corrupt.

Anybody who can't see it is blind beyond belief.

Anybody who thinks that anything that has happened in the past 6 months (including the language in the stimulus bill) is the result of oversight or simple error is an idiot.

They don't make "mistakes" at that level.

The only remedy is to clean out the nest of vermin called the Federal govt and there is only one way to do it.

@-- Paulus

You can't force a woman to carry a child she doesn't want or love (and may even hate), any more than you can force a man to financially support and "love" a child that is not biologically his .....

To force anybody to do anything against their will breeds resentment, anger, hatred and sometimes violence against self and/or others.

People may have to work at jobs they hate in order to be able to eat and have minimal shelter, but they don't have to do the two things referred to in the 1st paragraph.

Obama's Advisors and Cabinet Appointees

Should all have been selected outside of the Washington revolving door professional politician/lobbyist/corporate executive genre and should of had absolutely no involvement with the corporations they are now called upon to rein in and change for the public's benefit.

This is incest of the oligopoly of the worse sort and so the only ones who will profit will be the criminal perpetrators of the problem ....... all of which will simply concentrate what little wealth is left in the hands of the small numbered few ....

This is the biggest fraud/heist the world has ever seen.

Will it make an impression on Chris Brown's apologizers?

About as much impression as a video of dying aids patients will make significant numbers of people stop practicing unsafe sex.

"and unraveling their shit takes three times as long as it would have as the world financial system continues to go down in flames. Brilliant!"

That's BS ..... it isn't rocket science ...... these assholes, like any punk gambler in Vegas, made bets they can't cover and lost.

Throw them out (and like the old days in Vegas) bust both their knees ....

The stalling behind the "need to unravel" is the continuing painful machinations of the pro-corporate govt to somehow wind everything down in such a way that the rich are allowed to keep their money rather than take a hit and pay for their greed and foolishness ....

Your Govt Is For Sale

From the Rolling Stone article .....

But in the late Nineties, a few years before Cassano took over AIGFP, all that changed. The Democrats, tired of getting slaughtered in the fundraising arena by Republicans, decided to throw off their old reliance on unions and interest groups and become more "business-friendly." Wall Street responded by flooding Washington with money, buying allies in both parties. In the 10-year period beginning in 1998, financial companies spent $1.7 billion on federal campaign contributions and another $3.4 billion on lobbyists. They quickly got what they paid for. In 1999, Gramm co-sponsored a bill that repealed key aspects of the Glass-Steagall Act, smoothing the way for the creation of financial megafirms like Citigroup. The move did away with the built-in protections afforded by smaller banks. In the old days, a local banker knew the people whose loans were on his balance sheet: He wasn't going to give a million-dollar mortgage to a homeless meth addict, since he would have to keep that loan on his books. But a giant merged bank might write that loan and then sell it off to some fool in China, and who cared?

The very next year, Gramm compounded the problem by writing a sweeping new law called the Commodity Futures Modernization Act that made it impossible to regulate credit swaps as either gambling or securities. Commercial banks — which, thanks to Gramm, were now competing directly with investment banks for customers — were driven to buy credit swaps to loosen capital in search of higher yields. "By ruling that credit-default swaps were not gaming and not a security, the way was cleared for the growth of the market," said Eric Dinallo, head of the New York State Insurance Department.
