I Made 100 Phones Calls for John McCain

I tried to make 100 phone calls for Barack Obama but I am afraid I could not stick it out like you did. I did make calls for John Kerry in 2004 with more success but this time the people I actually reached had been called so much they were fed up. Evidently there has been a a lot of overkill this year. One man said he was voting for one of them and he was the friendliest person I spoke too.

It is great to volunteer but I think some things can be overdo

I have always been a liberal

According to my dictionary liberal means 1. generous 2. plentiful, abundant 3. broadminded: not narrow in one's ideas 4. favorable to progress and reforms. 5. a political party that favors progress and reforms. Conservative means 1. inclined to keep things as they are 2. cautious 3. a political party which opposes change 4. a member of a conservative party 5. a person opposed to change.

It is hard for me to understand how conservative commentators have managed to make "liberal" a dirty word over the past thirty years. I have always been proud to be a liberal.

How about Florida 2000

If Limbaugh and O'Reilly think this election was stolen, what do they think happened in Florida when Bush's brother stole the state for him. There was a full recount and agreement on both sides. If Florida had been handled as well as Minnesota we would not have had to go through eight years of the worst president in living memory.

Obama as the Anti Christ

Funny, that was the feeling I had about George W Bush for eight long years.

The truth about Limbaugh

I am sorry but the truth about your cousin is that he has been a terrible influence on those who do not have the education and intellect to think for themselves. Unfortunately there are too many people like this and it has influenced elections to the detriment of this country. If he cannot make money being honest then for the good of the country he should find another line of work.

The best and the brightest?

When has the Republican party ever elected or appointed the best and the brightest for anything? Their choices have clearly been the second rate and the most gullible. You only need to look at

Sarah Palin, the Bushes, Dan Quayle, Reagan and Spiro Agnew to see where this has gone. The saddest commentary on the voters is that they so often win elections.

This was a betrayal of all who supported him

I was an Edwards supporter and was especially impressed by Elizabeth. When I think what could have happened had he actually won the nomination I am horrified. His policies were the best of all the candidates and I believe in them but this man is seriously flawed. I am sorry for the pain he caused his wife but I am eve sorrier that she chose to help him in his campaign knowing that he could loose the election for his party.

He not only betrayed her but the entire country.

Original article: Bacon-flavored capitalism

This is obvious but why aren't we pressing for legislation to fix it?

It has been obvious for some time that the well being of the people is the last thing considered. The bottom line is the first and this has resulted in deregulation, tax payer bailouts for greedy corporations, subsidies going to rich agribusinesses that pollute the environment a put small farmers out of business.

We have allowed the lawmakers to get away with this because we sit back and allow them to sell out to the highest bidder. Some have begun to wake up to this. We can demand better with our votes but this will not happen until we have a better informed public. Those who drink the Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, O'Reiley koolaid will never learn.

Not all whites vote Republican

I am a southern white woman, a demographic I am sure the author would consider one theirs, but I have very rarely voted for a Republican. Of course, we were all Democrats until about 1980 or so but since then Republican politics have been so nasty and their lack of concern for the most vulnerable citizens so blatant that I cannot imagine casting a vote for them. After the fiasco of the Bush administration I find it amazing that they can actually face themselves in the mirror.

We are right to be afraid

After living through the Kennedy brothers and Martin Luther King's assassinations I am very afraid. The climate of hate and fear that the likes of Limbaugh, Beck and Palin advocate is worse than it was then. We have already seen a gunman attack a church before Obama took office. The Republican party is embracing the lies and hate speech because it stirs up their base and they do not care what the consequences are. Every time there is a leader who actually wants to help the ordinary people we see this kind of hysteria. They killed the Kennedys and King and kept up their attacks on Clinton until he pretty much went along with their agenda. I believe many of us felt as much fear and disgust and, yes even hatred, for Bush as they seem to for Obama but I never saw anything coming from the left that could compare to the rhetoric that passes for mainstream these days.
