Ms.Paglia,
I thought this editorial to be very refreshing. It isn't often that you see this kind of honest and even handed approach when dealing with the topic of Conservative Republicans in general and Sarah Palin in particular.
As Socrates said "The unexamined life is not worth living". I think both political parties would do well to engage in some long and hard soul searching.
Thanks for writing and publishing this column
While there may be racial issues that concern small town Democrats, I think the reality is that they don't like the content of his character rather than the color of his skin. Obama has talked alot about change and running a different style of campaign, but I think most voters see him as being all talk and no action. His campaign is no different than that of any of his predecessors.
As for change, I think voters believe him and are uncomfortable about the type of change he wants to make. This is for two reasons; He has been very coy about his agenda. He is indirect and non-specific. Additionally voters are able to read between the lines of what he has said, and they don't like what they believe they are hearing.
Most Americans like America they way it is. They don't believe that the radical changes Obama has indirectly promised are neccessary. They believe we need some reforms, but not revolutionary changes.
As a conservative, I'm game for this little experiment. I would however like to add one tiny little addendum. I would like to see George W. Bush and John Kerry added to to the roster as well as the current candidates. I would like to have them to compare and contrast with the current candidates. As was alluded to in the article, if such a test were given to the president, perhaps we wouldn't have selected such a "miseable failure".
Me thinks that the author is blind to his own biases concerning cognitive ability.
Anyway the long and short is, I think it is a good idea, in the words of that Great American Cowboy, W. "Bring it on!"
