[Read the article: "Sopranos" wrap-up: "Is this all there is?"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You can't live the way these people have lived for the years this show has been on, and not pay for your sins.

Sure, sometimes people don't pay. Look at Rupert Murdock.

But that's real life. In the world of the Sopranos, all the main characters are now too close to the whirlwind to avoid reaping the same.

AJ was absolutely turned-on by the torture. That was obvious. Maybe even too obvious. It's seemed likely for a long time that AJ was the kind of kid who would pull wings off flies for fun, if he thought of it. Now that he's activated, who knows what he'll do?

Gandolfini is doing a remarkable job of showing Tony in the midst of his final train-wreck. I'll be curious to see if Tony goes out like a shark, or like a lamb...it could go either way.

I thought Christopher's story in last night's episode was almost beyond words to describe. I could see him ratting everyone out in return for immunity..that would be perfectly in character.

Most of all though, I love the slowly building tension. It's in every scene now. You can almost see the air vibrating around the characters. This is not going to end well for these people. But it will end well for the Universe-at-large. David Chase is, at heart, a moral philosopher, and the Sopranos will stand, at last, as one of the great morality tales of our new century.

  • what's good for the goose...

[Read the article: Neocons' rejection of the rule of law extends to the personal level]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...does this mean that when I become President I can declare Neoconservatism as treason, and send them all the Guantanamo, or render them all to Egypt for interrogation?

It does? Really? By their very own precepts, yes, I'm the Executive, therefore, I can do whatever I want in the name of National Security, right?

And, of course, I'll want regular reports. Videos of Bill Kristol being waterboarded, for instance.

What a bunch of dangerous waterheads. The sooner they get pushed back out to the fringes of the body-politic, the better.

  • why why why

[Read the article: Democrats bear responsibility for restoring habeas corpus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is extremely important to understand just WHY habeas was abrogated for "enemy combatants." And if this has already been covered in these posts, my apologies.

Jack Hitt made it crystal clear in the "This American Life" show that won a Peabody this year. The reason the Bush administration suspended habeas for enemy combatants was NEVER to "keep us safe." The sole reason, and the ongoing reason, is because people inside the Administration and the CIA and the Pentagon realized that nearly everyone in Guatanamo was innocent of anything. And the Administration wanted to hide that fact by sequestering these prisoners so no-one could demonstrate the clear criminality of keeping them locked up.

This is why the administration never repatriates innocents from Guantanamo to the US. They don't want those people appearing on US television, giving the total lie to everything Cheney and Bush have been saying about the place, and the people in it.

In short , suspending habeas was nothing more than the lowest form of sleazy cover-your-ass-baby. And it's nothing more than that now. If the American people could actually SEE and HEAR the people now in Guantanamo, they would know the utter depths of their government's evil. And that's no exaggeration.

The Administration could not afford to have these people put on trial; nearly every one of them would have been found innocent, and nearly every case would have been thrown out of court for lack of evidence. Many have been abused, or even tortured, for no reason. The full-scale of the fuck-up down there was not realized until it was too late, and many innocents had been tortured. God knows, the Administration doesn't want THAT pretty fact made public.

So, Bush and Cheney decided to abrogate a 1000 year old tradition of law, to protect themselves, and for no other reason.

How much more reason do we need to impeach these motherfuckers, and convict them, and throw them in JAIL?

Nancy, are you listening? How much more are you going to take?

  • I love it when conventional wisdom is so utterly confirmed...

[Read the article: Dick Cheney vs. the stopped watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...Cheney is now so contemptuous of both MSM and the American public that he doesn't seem to care how many people know that he's a lying sack of shit.

Cheney job is to lead the rearguard action, covering the Bush Administration's ass, as they ride off into the sunset, out of office, and off to their highly-paid retirements. That's all. That is the SUM TOTAL of his responsibility now. Delay and delay and delay until he and Bush can blame everything on the Democrats.

It would be funny, if it wasn't so absolutely disgusting.

If someone in MSM would just grow a pair and start lowering the boom on that dickwad, the better we'd all be.

  • what do you expect?

[Read the article: All you need to know about the Beltway journalist mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You expect these guys to just admit they're full of shit and don't know a damned thing? Or worse, that they're hopelessly biased and have actually abetted an authoritarian takeover of the country?

They'll NEVER admit to that. They will fight like the weasles they are before they ever admit to any of it.

They will cover their own and each other's asses until they're all dead. You can bank on it.
