See, that's what doesn't make any sense. How is gay marriage an "attack" on anyone? Christians seem to percieve this as some sort of personal affront to them dispite the fact that it isn't about them at all. This is one of the main reasons why we can't take their complaints seriously, they keep trying to make themselves "victims" of something that has nothing to do with them in the first place. Maybe all those christians who are so offended by this could explain why this is somehow any of thier business. I keep asking this on my local newspaper site and nobody can seem to give a consistant answer which suggests that they really don't know except some religious authority decided it was important one day and they just decided to go along with it.
The man tried to SELL Obama's senate seat. And yes, that is illegal. I don't know how much Blago is paying you to try and throw us off the scent but it won't work. He is on tape doing so. It's an open and shut case. He knows it. That's why he's trying to use children and the elderly as human shields.
that if you compare someone to a pedophile or an alcoholic or drug addict or some other negative thing it makes them tune you out? Would they listien if someone called christianity a "disease"? Gays don't see what their doing as "evil", and the fact that getting conservatives to admit gays are born that way is like pulling teeth doesn't help matters either. So if Huckabee and the rest of the "compassionate conservatives" really want to reach out to the gay commuity, perhaps comparing them to criminals isn't the best place to start. If they are truly serious, then they need to start with gays being born that way. No serious discussion about homosexuality can begin without starting there.
I never beleived he really opposed it in the first place, but everyone in this country from the media on down is so afraid of the uneducated hillbillies that they won't stand up and call something they like bullshit. Why do you think Bush still hasn't been impeached yet? This country is being held hostage by the lowest common denominator. Unfortunately, Obama has fallen into the same trap. Even more unfortunately, he may have had to just to get elected.
Back when all this brewhaha started about Obama "usurping" Hillary last year, I wondered how much of this defensive support for Hillary was based on her policies and not her pussy. Many people, especially women, started taking her nomination too personally. Now I guess I have my answer. Hillary became some sort of stand-in for the whole feminist movement. It was like she was entitled to the presidency. I'm sorry, but that's not a healthy attitude to have.
In case you all missed it, this country dodged a huge bullet two months ago. The face of women in power in America could have been some uneducated beauty queen looking forward to the rapture. If feminists are upset about Obama being portrayed as a "feminist" (which begs the question what the term actually means if there isn't a consensus) then think about that. Not everywhere is NYC. There is still plenty of real work to be done on behalf of women in the flyover states. Many states have, for all intents and purposes, abolished "Roe". If these Hillary dead-enders want something to really worry about, how about they start there.
This isn't about trying to "offset" Warren. It's about the fact that the inauguration is supposed to be for the supporters. If he wants to sit down with Warren in an official manner and talk about issues after the party that's fine, that's what presidents do, but this is our time, the people who actually voted for him. I seriously doubt Warren fits into that category.
Also, and I'm surprised no one has pointed this out to Obama yet, this whole invitation makes it look like he is being rewarded for backing things like prop. H8. Obama was against prop. H8 but put in no effort to prevent it's passage and even some of his qoutes got taken out of context on pro-H8 literature. Warren actively put money into a pro-H8 campaign. Now, for this hateful act, he gets to appear on national television, on every major channel no less, and give a prayer. If Obama cannot see how this looks to the gay community then perhaps Mellissa Etheridge needs to sit down with these men, since she seems ot be so buddy, buddy with them, and explain this.
If the dittoheads who listened to his show had any thinking capacity of thier own they might look at something like this and wonder what "Dear Leader" was doing sitting down with the enemy. One day he's "Barrack the Magic Negro" the next he's having dinner with him. Why it's almost as if (GASP!) Rush might be a complete phony! Saying things on the air about how evil "liberals" and "socialists" are and the next being in the same room with them and not killing them. You might even start to think that he was just some paid shill for special interest groups and didn't really believe some of the things he himself says. Nah, that couldn't possibly be, right guys?
Period!
And it will be back to business as usual. Namely, calling Obama a socialist who wants to take your guns away and force your children to marry gays. Not to be a negative Nelly about all this but these guys are paid whores for the republican party. They can't afford to put on the kid gloves with Obama even if they like him. Their $40 million dollar a year paychecks depend on it. Don't expect this good will to lead anywhere.
