The passage of prop. H8 was, for me, the last straw of putting up with eight years, no make that, 15 years of conservatives getting to write the narrative in this country. Even on the night we won, the right still got to salvage something from the election with the passage of prop. H8. What did we get to salvage from 2000? From 2004? Even when we win we still lose in some way. The republicans don't ever have to make this concession. Now one of their own (albeit one who isn't entirely trusted by either side) gets to give the main prayer at the inuaguration. When are they actually going to have to lose? My anger over this has caused me (moreso on my local newspaper site then here) to adopt something of a scorched earth policy in regards to conservatives.
It isn't just prop. H8 either. When a republican congresswoman can go on national television and basically call for a return to McCarthyism and STILL get re-elected in this day and age it truly makes me scared for the future of this country. Especailly after the past eight years of a president starting a war based on lies and having to suffer no consequences for it. They get to do this over and over and over again and they get rewarded for it. We get control of both houses of congress and the new speaker of the house takes impeachment "off the table" before she even gets to move into her new office because she is still so afraid of the 25% dead enders that will go to their graves making excuses for Bush and calling for the heads of doubters. And why not? They've got all of talk radio behind them and their own news network.
So yes, I have lumped all conservatives into the same category out of anger. I don't know who this Laural person is and I don't know what she wrote but if the letters that get sent to my local paper complaining about all those uppity queers not being grateful that their even allowed to live are any indication, it's nothing I haven't read before.
If what I have written offended you them I am sorry but I am sick of playing by rules the other side threw out a long time ago.
Your making a lot of broad assumptions about this man. Warren doesn't hate gays? You have no more way of knowing that then we do. Just because he says he doesn't doesn't mean it's true. This man has compared homosexuality to MOLESTING CHILDREN! There is no positive way to read that. It is and should be unacceptable. Now he says he wants to sit down and make nice? Sure, right after he sits down with an emam who says all christians should convert to islam or have thier heads cut off. What do you think the likelyhood of that is? When soemone compares you to a pedophile then we'll see if you throw a temper tantrum in a store. But if it's you their talking about, well, that's okay, right?
So you don't see a difference between children and consenting adults? Yeah, your real logical. Based on your "logic", we should also give a drivers license to a toddler. In case you haven't been paying attention, most of the "slippery slope" excuses you gay haters have been using as a crutch for so many years have since been shot down on thier own merits. Incest causes birth defects, polygamy causes forced marriages (Colorado City anyone?), ditto marrying children (often the two have been connected), animals can't consent and niether can toasters. That leaves relatives past child baring age and in some states relatives already can marry anyway. Funny how the sky hasn't fallen as a result.
Living in a red state where every other day a letter to the paper is written about how horrible gays are (for people who swear they don't hate gays, you all sure like condemning them a lot) I can tell you that "slippery slopes" aren't exactly the first argument you all like to run to. It's usually fear of a second Soddom and Gammorah. Only after some gay person has pointed out to you that they don't beleive in your religion does the "slippery slope" come out. Which of course raises all kinds of questions about what the real motivation is here (that and not putting nearly as much energy into things like ending poverty or fighting for more affordable healthcare as you do into gay bashing).
Conservatives also have a rather nasty history of accusing gays of trying to recruit children. So the idea that Warren might be trying to make some kind of connection in peoples minds isn't outside the realm of possibility. You all have done a lot of damage to the gay community that very few of you have taken any responsibility for. Or perhaps you've forgotten Falwell's little stunt on the 700 Club two days after 9/11. If the gay community says they don't beleive Warren and those who agree with him when they say they don't hate gays, maybe stuff like that might have a little something to do with it. Thier concern wasn't pulled out of their asses. They had a lot of help from you guys.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
