I have no doubt in my mind that the only reason I am still alive today is because half the population doesn't vote. God knows what the crazy religious zealots on the right would do if they thought they could get away with it. I would have been gassed to death and thrown in some oven some time ago under their America. We must make sure that McCain/Palin doesn't win or it won't be long before anyone who doesn't vote republican will be put on a train to die. That is what a "christian" America would look like.
Is EVERYTHING about abortion with you people? Is that why you picked the least compitent choice back in 2000 over McCain? Is that why you went gaga over this woman, whose record is virtually identical to Obama in the lack-of-experience department? Is that why you are willing to overlook economic issues for, y'know, the people who are already here?
Single issue voting is stupid enough but to not care about the kind of world that you want all those "unborn" babies to inherit is even worse. You don't beleive in preserving the environment they would grow up in, you don't beleive in respecting those who are not of your faith which I guess means it doesn't matter if they are born or not because they would be going to Hell anyway (especially if they turn out to be gay, then you'd kill them yourself), you don't care if their parents can even afford to feed them. How myopic can you get?
I have to wonder what kind of world you would be creating for these kids. Especially if they can't have basic necessities like clean air and water or their parents can't even put food on the table. If abortion is the only issue you will vote on (and gay bashing) I seriously have to question if you are even intelligent enough to even be voting in the first place.
Thank you for proving that conservatives are indeed trying to turn America into a theocracy. The whole diea of America is that I don't have ot obey someone elses religon and the governemtn can't force me to. But I guess it's too much to ask cons to read the constitution.
I guess not doing any actual research is a requirment for believing in creationism? Try looking up:
Archaeopteryx, a transition between reptiles and birds or
Ambulocetus, a transiton between amphibious mammals and whales
or the ancestors of the modern horse,
Eohippus
Mesohippus
Parahippus
Merychippus
or the Tiktaalik a lobe finned fish/tetrapod, it had both gills and lungs.
Of course in a desperate attempt to hold on to your childhood beleifs, I'm sure you will find some way to ignore these things and stil claim they don't exist.
Sicne we're on the subject of proof, when are you going to provide any that the story of genesis actually happened. Let's see what you base your beliefs on.
Which is that conservatives plan to ban the things their religion doesn't like. That is the definition of theocracy. Unless you address the reasons why we suspect you are trying to turn America into a theocracy, simply lambasting the article isn't going to acomplish anything. Does Sarah Palin beleive in banning things for religious reasons? The article, along with most of us Salon regulars (as in, not those of you who showed up just to bash "liberals"), have good reason to beleive that she will. If we are wrong, correct us. If not, the you can't really say the article is unfair, can you?
Given the way that conservatives accuse anyone who disagrees with them of "treason" and villify gays for political gain, I have good reason to believe those of us who don't go along with their agenda will be killed. Given that half the population doesn't vote, the conservatives have good reason not to be honest about this if they were going to do it. Claims about representing the "majority" not withstanding. Talk about bombs may bbe irrelevant if the theocracts honestly think they are going to win anyway. They are are more then willing ot wait until they take power to kill the "infidels". In that sense they really are different from their muslim counterparts.
I've fought several homophobes on my local newspaper website and have asked them the cause of same sex attraction. You would be surprised how many of them don't have an answer to that question. For all their condemnation, they really haven't given the issue that much deep thought. If nothing else, it helps debunk religous excuses. Why would a God make people the way he doesn't want them to be? Wouldn't that be counter productive to beleif? It may not elminate all prejiduce, but it certainly makes it harder to justify even having an opinion on the issue.
What are they left with? "Well, it's still harmful to society." Without giving a good explaination why or "Just becuase it's biological that doesn't mean you have to do it." All while completely side stepping the fact that it is really none of their business if you do it or not. This doesn't resolve the marriage issue certainly, but it could still go a long way towards forcing conservatives to ask very real questions about thier faith and the basis for their opposition. Every little step helps.
But as another poster pointed out, these are the same people who have found a way to ignore evolution for the past 150 years so who knows for sure.
The line about "GOD BLESS GEORGE BUSH!!! GOD BLESS GEORGE BUSH!!!" was probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen!
