Do you really think that Bush shops at Wal-Mart? Do you really think he has ever even been in a Wal-Mart when he wasn't on the campaign trail? What about Tom Delay? When do you think the last time he shopped at Wal-Mart was that wasn't some photo-op? Or Dick Cheney? Or Fred Thompson? Or even your great religous leaders Dobson and Robertson? Does Mitt Romney even know what the inside of one looks like? This is why Bill makes fun of you. The fact that you can't see that the answer to that question is clearly "no". Yet whenever they throw out some stereotype about "country clubs" (of which I can guarantee most of the people I just named belong to one and you would never be able to see inside it) you have no problem taking it at face value.
It is hard to take your intelligence seriously when you keep falling for these ploys. Someone in some think tank sat down one day and decided that gay marriage was a major issue. And instead of questioning why it was being given priority status, you just went along with it, again. Same thing with Rush and global warming, he said it doesn't exist and you take him at his word despite the fact that he has no degree in climatology and it is well known he is being paid to shill for major corporations. Couple that with the fact that it defies basic physics (expecting toxic chemicals to magically disappear once they hit the atmosphere) and what about this situation doesn't deserve mockery? You can say it's mean spirited but so is changing the constitution to deny someone else the same benefits you have just because of what gender they are attracted to.
The majority in middle America may be conservative but that doesn't mean they're right. 500 years ago the majority believed the sun revolved around the Earth. Had some "elites" not challenged this notion, this false assumption would still be believed today. The idea of the Earth being created in only six days may be comforting but that doesn't necessarily make it true. Getting angry at those who point it out doesn't make them wrong. But clinging to a beleif just because it "feels good", be it creationism or voting for a man who is clearly unqualified just becuase he says Jesus is his favorite philosopher, is childish and stupid.
You may disagree with Obama and his positions but don't expect to be treated as intelligent when you take a bunch of whores for industry seriously when they get up and call other people "elitist". It is so blatently hypocritical that you really would have to be as dumb as the stereotypical hillbilly not to see it.
You can't call yourselves the party of "less government" if you are trying to ban everything your religion doesn't like. The fact that we noticed that contradiction and you didn't is another argument for us being smarter then you.
Thank you for your kind words (at least towards me)!
And because it simply cannot be said enough, thank you for your service.
Are you shitting me with this? Yes, the reason why they not only think that two guys marrying each other is somehow their business but important enough to change our nations founding document over is because of some percieved perception of arrogance. Ditto abortion and shoving the ten commmandments in everyone's faces everytime you go into a tax payer funded building. Oh please!
Look, I love Bil Maher to death but I have no illusions about the size of his audience. The shiny object wavers like O'Rielly have much more influence on the electorate then he does and they aren't exactly telling thieir audience that both parties are snookering them. These people care more about other people's sex lives then they do their own needs and that is why Bill talks down to them. Is it an effective mind changer? No, probably not. But it isn't exactly unwarranted either.
I don't know where you live but where I live these people will defend McCain as a "true maverick" (their words, not mine) and brush off all the same criticisms of Palin that they happily doled out to Obama just last week (lack of experience, token candidate, etc.). Ron Paul and his supporters are seen as crazy spoilers and Nader couldn't get elected dog catcher. Let's stop pretending the "elitist" meme is something the democrats brought on themselves. Bruised feelings brought about by Bill Maher isn't the reason these people won't vote democrat, it's highly unlikely most of them could give a flying flip what he thinks of them anyway, it's because they choose to put symbolism about flags and the bible and June and Ward Cleaver ahead of their own survival. Ideals are more important then reality. Just ask Gov. Palin what she thinks of sex ed even after her daughters pregnancy.
Maher may be insulting, but I doubt there will be a whole lot of people going into the booth come November pulling that lever for McCain just to get revenge on him.
