If Salon is going to continue to give this group space, they at least have some sort of journalistic obligation to ask how many of these people are ACTUAL Hillary supporters. We all know republicans will do anything to win so posing as supporters of a woman they've been trying to portray as a control freak for a decade and a half in the hopes that their paranoia will be vindicated at the last minute is not out of the question. We all know how upset Rush was when she didn't get the nomination. A Hillary upset at the convention would be gold for this bunch.
On the off chance some of these people really are Hillary supporters, it is obvious they don't care about actual policy. Which begs the question about how qualified they are to vote in the first place. They talk about a cult of personality surrounding Obama but what do they call voting against all the same policies their candidate championed just because their choosen candidate didn't win? Do you know how many people hate McCain on the right but are still voting for him anyway because they see him as the "lesser of two evils"? This is why they keep winning, they can get their shit together even when they don't always agree.
True progressives might want to take a lesson from that and stop threatening to go with fringe candidates everytime we don't get everything we want exactly the way we want it (Green voters, I'm looking right at you).
There is only one thing republicans care about: Money. They have no values, they have no soul, they have no brains, they only have their greed. The phony concern for the "unborn" and the talk of "Jesus" is all an act. There is no such thing as a christian republican. You cannot be both because they are polar opposites. They constantly need someone to hate. This is how they all are.
...it's obvious just from their writings they are republican plants. "Liberal Elitist Media"? They can't even turn off the rhetoric when they are pretending to be democrats.
"If you really want Democratic unity, try addressing those concerns. If you make a good case, they'll support Obama."
I'm not as convinced of that as you are. It really does seem that these women (and some men) really do act as though Hillary was entitled to the presidency. So far we haven't seen any willingness to listen to any argument from the Obama camp from most of these people. Addressing those concerns (and I'm not really sure what more your asking for here) will not magically make them listen to a man they have previously stated they will not hear under any circumstances. If someone says outright they will not vote for you, it is better to just move on.
Personally I think Obama has been more then respectful of Hillary given the way many of her supporters are treating him (unlike some people, I do feel that she is trying to make up for some of the damage caused but even she cannot speak for all of her supporters). But he shouldn't have to bend over backwards when his policies really aren't all that different from hers. Especially when he also has to win over the uncommited at the same time. If all of you are somehow convinced that Hillary would have done things better, then explain how her policies are so far off from his. Let's see how wide that gap really is.
And to all those who are saying that she would have stood a better chance then him, then how do you explain the republican hate machine that was built around her for the past 15 years? For whatever irrational paranoid reason, they targetted her from the day her husband ran for office and have never let go since. I think the fact that Limbaugh wanted her to be the nominee speaks for itself as far as how prepared they were to fight her. At least with Obama they had to make up all new bullshit.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
