Really? You gonna call "bullshit" on Nader's claim that there are no differences between the two parties too? The past eight years, hell, the past five years, alone should be all the convincing you need that, yeah, perhaps there is a difference between the dems. and reps.
That's what pissed me off the most about Nader, this blind absolutism that says everyone who doesn't agree with me on everything is the enemy. No compromise on anything, just have to have everything exactly the way you want it, damn the consequences. How many dead Americans would we have in Iraq if Gore had won? Don't want to answer that one do you. And if you think all Gore had to do was win his home state or some bullshit like that, you clearly don't understand how things work out here in the red states. He's lucky he got as many votes as he did. You have no idea how badly Clinton and anyone associated with him was hated out here. Still is. This is dittohead country.
Yes, Gore's campaign had all kinds of problems, that's what happens when you'r a democrat trying to get a bunch of rednecks whose biggest concern is guns, God, gays and abortion to vote for you. Something Nader, and apparently his supporters, wouldn't know anything about. Try running on a far left platform out here, especially in the aftermath of the Monica scandal, and see how far that'll get you. Nader had no clue what he was dealing with.
Fine, you don't think the democrats are progressive enough, how nice. I don't think they are either, but at least I understand what they have to deal with when their not on the coasts. Do you? Nader didn't. There's a reason why they have been so afraid to stand up to Bush all these years. You try fielding a bunch of calls from angry Limbaugh listeners over your vote against the latest Orwellian named anti-terrorist bill and hear about how you endangered their children. Of course if Gore had won on the middle of the raod platform you all think is so terrible, that wouldn't have been a problem.
not because it deserves it mind you, but because the academy is still afraid of the reaction of the knuckledraggers in Jesusland. "Taxi" probably deserves to win (since I don't live in a coastal city, I have no way of knowing for sure) but I still want to see "No end in sight" precisely because it isn't a propoganda piece. If a nonpartisan film can prove the same point Micheal Moore tried to prove four years ago, I say we should encourage it. Too bad it came too late.
You want drugs legalized so you can get wasted in your mom's basement, good for you. Now go away and let the grown-ups talk about real issues.
should be required to show how it actually affects their life before their allowed to weigh in on it. Whether it's in the voting booth or just in a debate. That would eliminate the whole "preserve moral values" crap that they spew off that means nothing. Make no mistake, I believe that gay marriage opponents hate gays as human beings, you have to in order to deny someone else the same legal benefits you get under the law, but I think that if these bigots are going to chime in on this anyway, why not give then the chance to prove themsleves.
The gay community can at least point to how it actually affects their lives. Let's level the playing field and see if the bigots can do the same.
I just know that there is some poster on all these forums that, no matter what the topic is, is always trying to turn the conversation into one about drugs. I don't know if it's you or not, I just know that we should let the single issue loonies stay with the republican party. That's what it looked like to me.
Does he have any idea how often he nearly became a criminal just for the stuff in his act? Does he give a fuck about that? One wrong election outcome and I bet he would be changing his mind! Prison cells tend to do that to people.
Unless Donahue has never attacked anyone for disobeying the bible, I don't think he is in a posisiton to attack Hagee either. The media has never taken the threat the religious right poses seriously. I would be very surprised if they started now. I think it's rather telling that Hagee endorsed McCain instead of Huckabee, could it be because "values" and "principles" are less important then influence?
I bet they all miss the old days when they could rally around one big republican whore that would pay them lip service but never actually give them anything.
anybody who thinks that "Osama/Obama" thing is too cartoony to be used in real life hasn't been paying attention to the right wing noise machine the past eight years.
could it be because the public is finally starting to figure out that the outrage the right exudes is fake? Let's hope they figure out everything else they exude is also fake. Thinking the flag is just a piece of cloth is a hell of a lot better then thinking that the constitution is just a "goddamn piece of paper!" like a certain Current Occupant. You know who else thinks the flag is just a piece of cloth? John Glenn. Yes, THAT John Glenn. Anybody want to question his patriotism? His hero status?
While I don't think that the flag lapel is the reason certain candidates aren't in the race anymore, I'm glad to see it also isn't a free pass anymore either.
