RealName...

Do you have a good reason why pot and porn should be outlawed? The closest argument I have ever heard for keeping pot illegal is that someone could get behind the wheel and kill someone while high. Given the fact that this already happens with alchohol, which is legal, makes this argument a double standard at the very least. As for porn, I have never heard a credible argument for outlawing it. The closest I think anyone ever came was to suggest that it would reduce incidents of rape. I would bet there are no stats on this and making such an argument is like saying all guns should be outlawed to prevent bank robberies. I don't see a whole lot of the anti-porn crowd getting behind that one.

I heart Opus!!!

I first discovered "Outland" when I was in high school and got so pissed when it was cancelled! This was around the same time all the good ones were going: "Far Side", "Calvin and Hobbs"; after that, the only good one left in my paper was "Foxtrot", and now it's gone too! What is the deal?!!! I'm so glad he brought the character back but I don't get it in my paper. Thank Salon I can get it here!

My favorite was Matalins...

You have to let Scooter out "for the children!" Ha! I wonder if at some point in the planning phase of the war the White House didn't try to sell it as being "for the children of Iraq!" Just attach "children" to anything and watch it fly off the shelves! Stop abortion, "for the children!" Stop all them queers from getting married, "for the children!" Lift the ban on assault rifles, "for the children!" I have a question for Mrs. Carville, what about Valerie Plames children? Their mother was put in danger because someone in the White House (rymes with stove!) wanted to discredit a dissenter (who happened to be their father) who dared question their precious war. So they committed a small act of treason in hopes that it would make him go away. I hope your children can sleep well tonight, Mary, because your president was willing to endanger another mother for his own gain.

PS...

Bragging about your SoD record, doesn't exactly help your credentials, Rummy.

So let me see if I understand this correctly...

Most of these guys happily lined up behind the war in Iraq, but none of them have a conclusive way to resolve it? They agree that it was a good idea, but they can't even agree on how to fix it. I think the republiCAN'T party has a lot more to worry about then simply getting back control of Washington and getting the "Left Behind" crowd to vote for them.

I'm still trying to get my head around Thompson wanting to send Bush on a lecture tour about "integrity"! Is this idiot not looking at any polls at all? 70% of the country thinks this guy lost his integrity a while ago. The only people he would be able to speak to that would take him seriously would be church groups who still think that dinosaur bones were put on earth by Satan! If Bush ever gives a speaking tour after he leaves office, it will most likely include staffers handing out confidentiality agreements to potential attendees making them swear not to mention his Iraq record during any of the Q&A sessions.

Not all cons are distancing themselves...

The candidates may be distancing themselves from the Commander and Chimp, but most of the base voters still aren't. I live in a red state, the Bushies here are still loyal as ever. Many of them are still looking for another Bush this go round. I think I have figured out why the right is so defensive of him though, this is just my observation, but I think they realize they are wrong. I think they realize that Bush is incompetent and that the world isn't black and white and that worldview is why he has failed but don't want to admit it so what to they do? They get mad at the messengers. It's just easier then admitting that they are wrong about everything.

None of these clowns would have stood behind a democratic president that screwed up a war, particularly a war of choice like Iraq was, this bad. Incidently, I've never heard a republican have anything nice to say about Clinton so this idea that we shoud have to "prove" that we aren't just being a bunch of meanies to Bush is a steaming pant load!

Why are you surprised?

These people will tolerate no dissent. I think that is part of the reason why they haven't really made any progress, they refuse to work with anyone who doesn't believe in exactly everything they do and to the same extreme degree. Of course when you only care about one or two issues, you can afford to devote all your energies to only like-minded people.

I can't help but wonder...

if all of her antics have hurt the family business. I can't believe that stock in Hilton hotels (assuming they sell stock) would not go down because of this. This is a woman (yes, a grown woman) who does nothing but party for a living, whose parents are not requiring her to get a job, and keeps doing more and more outragous things for attention. How could all this make the family business look all that appealing to business travelers who actually do have to work for a living? If I were constantly away from home for work and couldn't be with my family because of it, I certainly wouldn't want to give my money to a hotel franchise who lets their child get away with as much as this girl has.

Maybe if sales at Hilton hotels start to fall off because of this girl, they'll finally force her to grow up.
