It's time to abandon religion.

I'm sorry but it's just more trouble then it's worth these days. The people most concerned about issues that help people like universal healthcare and marraige equality (or at least legal equality) aren't the deeply religious, their us so-called "secular liberals". And what are the deeply religious most concerned about? Denying these things to people and rolling back freedoms instead of expanding them. Their solution to a pregnant mother who can't afford to raise her child is to force her to anyway, how "compasionate" is that? We, on the other hand, acknowledge the reality of the situation and know that being "pro-life" means caring for what happens to that child AFTER it is born. Some diapers and formula for a few months isn't a real solution.

If the right wants talk of God returned to the public square, then let's have the conversation start with whether or not we need him. Because it seems right now, those who claim to respect him the most are only concerned about taking things away from people, instaed of what they are willing to give. Especially to the most needy.

Boy, good thing they believe in "moral values"....

otherwise this kind of behavior might look corrupt.

And I thought us "liberals" were supposed to be the "humorless" ones!

Oh, and you forgot about Ann Coulter's "faggot" joke. Not to mention how the so-called "liberal" media still kept giving her air time afterword. Good times!

@AJ Calhoun

Thank you for your (fairly) civil response. No, I am not advocating "forced conversion" like our "christian" bretheren, I do believe in debate and rational discussion to change people's minds. And yes, I do think the discussion about God needs to start with "what is he/she/it?" But I also believe, living in a red stae, that the "Salty Pappy"'s of the world are more frequent then we would like to admit (I also find it fairly interesting that whenever discussion about God or "morality" comes up they always feel the need to throw in a little gay bashing). Accusing us of "arrogance" while claiming to speak for God is a rather amusing oxymoron in and of itself.

My point was rather to say that religion, not a belief in God, is the cause of the problem. I am an agnostic who is more then willing to admit that I don't know the answer. Therefore a healthy debate about such things would naturally start with whether or not God actually exists and move forward from there. Right now, no such debates are taking place. I would like to think that if they did, the "Salty Pappy"'s of the world would have to concede that they really don't have all (if any, really) of the answers.

Ah, yes, the "I am a real American" crowd...

I believe the Nazis thought they were the only real Germans, I think we all know what happened to everyone who disagreed with them. There is no reason to believe that the moment the "Salty Pappy"'s of the world get control of this country, the rest of us won't be shipped off to the death camps. They already selectivly read passages out of the old testament that don't apply to them to suite their agenda, no reason to believe they wouldn't bring back stoning of unbelievers too.

I'm fighting to preserve my freedoms, that are threatened by religious extremists like you. The only thing "christians" like you care about are taking people's freedoms away.

"Who cares what hate radio says at that point. Already fewer and fewer people listen to it."

I'd like to believe that, I really would. Unfortunately, the damage may already be done even if it's true.

Excuse me?

YOUR the one who called yourself a "real American", implying that anyone who disagrees with you is not.

YOUR the one who selectively chooses passages out of the old testament that conviently don't apply to you and gives them priority status. If you either shaved this morning or had bacon with your breakfast, you've already violated the same standard that your holding gays to. It was also you who brought up gays being "abberant" in the first place. Something you people seem to do a lot of whenever the talk turns to morality.

As for christians not hating gays, sounds like someone forgot about Ann Coulter's little remarks towards John Edwards. Don't try and tell me you don't support what she said because obviously enough of you do or her books wouldn't keep selling.

Incidently, I don't think someone who resorts to name calling and claims to speak for God but still blindly goes along with one political party without question is in a position to lecture everyone else about "tolerance", something I thought you people hated anyway.

"stop the bigotry!!"

You first.

Applying a double standard.

Holding people who don't even believe in your God to that religions standards while completely ignoring the parts that apply to you in the same book. Typical con!

A newspaper column I saw recently by Ann Coulter attacked the Huckster as a dangerous leftie. Absurd perhaps, but I suspect that he probably would be a pragmatist in office who just paid lip service to fundamentalist religious dogma.

It's not strange at all, Ann Coulter is a phony christian. It's as simple as that. Along with most other christians whose biggest concern is other people's sex lives. It's called distraction politics and the republicans are great at it. Get people to care about things that don't affect them so that they can screw them over in areas that do. Most churhces are in on it.

So let me see if I understand this correctly...

Gay people should stay alone and unloved for the rest of their lives to appease a God who made them the way he supposedly doesn't really want them to be in the first place? Wouldn't the more logical conclusion be that your religion is wrong?

And AJ, your welcome, and thank you as well!:)
